Despite the weather there was always a "sunny" welcome at the hotel. Lisa and her smiley staff couldn't have been more helpful. Although staying in adjacent accommodation (overspill!) all of our meals & socialising was in the hotel, with our walking group. There was always a warm, friendly atmosphere and the food was tasty & plentiful - especially enjoyed the Thai buffet.

Just got back from a four night break with our walking group. Lisa made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
Our room was very clean and comfortable. The shower room/toilet was spotless.
The food in the restaurant was excellent though the delivery needs attention especially for a large group all sitting down together. Breakfast was very good indeed and the Thai/chinese meal on the last evening was truly wonderful with a vast choice of beatifully cooked dishes.
The Elmington will be our first choice when we go back to Torquay.

If you want a 'chain' hotel with their 'motorway-service-station' ambience and 'I only work here' staff then don't go to the Elmington. The Elmington is that rare bird these days. Family run by Liza, with the help of her sons, who puts her life and soul in to the place. Olde worlde service but with all the modern amenities you would expect. You are made to feel welcome the moment you walk in the door and nothing is too much trouble.

The hotel is clean, well appointed and warm and the garden and pool are well maintained. The rooms are large enough, very comfortable and some have stunning views across the corner of the bay to Torquay and at night the lights of the town give it that mediterranaen feel.

The quality and quantity of the meals are amazing, no expense is spared and the choice was outstanding - even for my wife and myself who are vegetarians.

I took a group of 40+ to the Elmington and not only did Liza and her staff cope marvellously but there were no complaints from anyone in the group. Many people said they would be going back under their own steam.

So convenient for the station but with more than adequate parking.

A haven in a 'plastic' world.

Room Tip: Rooms 16/17 for the four poster and the sea view but the standard double rooms 25/26 also have wonde...

Stayed here during July had the nicest stay imaginable!

The Elmington was a three minute walk from the station, which was nice for the luggage dragging, and it was in a nice peaceful location - which is always a bonus. The staff are the hardest working people! The lady popped up everywhere from greeting to cooking, and it was nice to see her laughing and chatting to all the guests every morning, a really friendly atmosphere! The young chap there was also brilliant, recommended a nice fish restaurant to eat, as well as some nice sites to visit - lovely guy. We had a week stay and have already planned to go again this year! Would recommend a nice dip in the outdoor heated pool - the view from there was lovely. What can I say? Nice, clean, welcoming and just a few minutes walk from the beach. I can see why it's a four star guest house!!!

Room Tip: If you can, get a seaview, you won't regret it!

We were welcomed by the lovely Liza who made us feel at home in her lovely hotel. Our room was laid out perfectly and had double glazed windows, so was quiet too. An all round great experience.

This hotel appeared to be run single handedly by one lady who was very friendly. Unfortunately the hotel feels a bit stuck in the past. The communal areas were decorated in an oriental style which I actually quite liked because it was a bit different. The room itself, however, felt very old and tired with sad furniture, fittings and decoration cobbled together. The whole place just desperately needs a revamp to bring it up to date. The breakfast was OK but again, a slightly old school greasy english breakfast.
It is good value though and very clean. The location is excellent if you are arriving/leaving by train and as other reviewers have said you can't hear the railway at all. Is about a 5 minute walk to the sea, 10-15 minutes to the Riviera Conference Centre and 20 minutes to the main shopping/restaurant area.
