“Great Value”
Reviewed 16 September 2011

We stayed in the middle of August this year.......terrific location a stones throw from the beach and only a 10 minute flat walk along the promenade to the town area.
Good quality breakfast served to your table by the friendly, helpful staff and although we did not eat in for the evening meals I was reliably informed they were good value for money.
Evening entertainment everyday consisting of visiting cabaret acts with a short break for bingo(my daughter now addicted) which was called out in his own unique and comical manner by Peter , the General Manager, who was terrific I have to say throughout our stay.
As mentioned on other reviews it is true that the bedrooms and other public areas of the hotel are in need of some TLC but that aside I found the holiday to be great value for all ages.
Would have no hesitation staying again !!

We stayed at the Kistor Hotel in August of this year; we travelled with Slacks from Derbyshire. Peter the manager had a very pleasant disposition, and nothing was too much trouble for him or the staff in general. The food was of a high standard and you could have small or large portions, if you so wished. The atmosphere and the position was very good and you could walk down to all the amenities very easily. Before we left, I had a word with Peter about the décor, and the fact some of the hotel is in need of attention also the swimming pool area, which he agreed. But looking at the bigger picture you do get value for money, and this isn’t a five star hotel. Hope to see you all again, well done Kistor!!

thank you for your observations.i am acutely aware of the short comings of the hotel in regard to some areas being in need of refurbishment etc. but as you recognised this is why the tariff is such a bargain. We offer good value for money. In return our guests enjoy a great flat location (unusual in Torquay) near to the seafront, parks, gardens, pitch'n'putt, tennis, bowls etc full use of amenities in our 3 hotels, 3 swimming pools and leisure facilities, entertainment every night, happy hour, happy friendly and helpful staff. Many rooms have sea views but as in any hotel there are some rooms which are better than others. We like every other business in the world is struggling to make the right decisions to enable us to move forward in a postive way and still give value for money. The vast majority of guests appreciate this and can see the bigger picture. We charge the same as most guest houses but with a multitude of facilities that they don't have. Times are hard but I hope that we still represent excellent value for money and that our guests enjoy a carefree holiday that they will return to year after year.

Well, I can only express my total amazement at this review. We have guests who return time after time who specifically ask to stay in this room. It has one of the best views of all oiur rooms.
A panoramic view extending all the way from the harbour right around the Bay to Brixham and beyond.
The room benefits from a newly redecorated and refurbished bathroom and some dirty windows which will be cleaned once the window cleaners come next week. Oh, yes it does have a small stain in the ceiling where some water leaked through prior to the section of flat roofing being repaired.
I wonder if they have got the name of the hotel right?

All the staff at the Kistor was very funny and really nice! we was always laughing! The room was lovely! We had a very nice view of the sea. The hotel was very close to the sea front! minute and half walk. Everything is just brilliant about this hotel and we WILL be back.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a sea view.

arrived at the hotel, on checking in found out lift out of order, have a husband who is very ill & struggles with stairs, given key to room to find a very very tired looking room, paper coming off walls, thread bare carpets, bathroom was just dreadful, bath was stained. on a plus side, manager arranged a mobility scooter for my husband, breakfast was small but ok, maybe leaving toast on show already cooked when kitchen door open not a good idea, & chef should learn to swear a bit more quietly.

What an angry review! Yes, the lift was broken down and has taken a long time to repair as a faulty part had to be made from scratch as they are no loger available. if you were here you'd realise just how upset we all were at the distress this break caused to our guests. Where possible alternative rooms were offered in one of our other hotels. We could not have foreseen this breakdown as we have a maintenance contract with a reputable lift engineering company and they would have notified us if there had been a chance of this happening.
We have spoken with guests who have had problems and tried to deal with them on an individual basis. I am sorry if I failed in your case to resolve your issues other than the lift but I do need to be made aware of your concerns whilst you are actually in the hotel.
Agreed some of our rooms are tired but it must be said that there is a difference between tired and dirty. If you take the time to read other reviews cleanliness has not been an issue recently. in fact quite the opposite.
I have taken the chef to task but in fairness it is not the chef but a server who has now been suitably reprimanded for loud and colourful use of the English language.
As to the toast issue. It is made in the kitchen and then put into racks prior to being served. Extra toast is always available and you can order what ever you want for breakfast. You can have a large or small one It's upto you. The waiter just needs to know when he takes your order.

The Hotel itself is very well located to the sea front and beach, although it is just a short walk to the harbour and town centre.
The service that is provided by the Hotel staff is excellent. All the staff and management at the Hotel is hospitable and very polite and friendly.
The rooms are cleaned to a very high standard of cleanliness.
The food is reasonably good.
What I liked about the Hotel is that the management and staff at the hotel treated me very well and with respect. The evevning entertainment was excellent.
The only downside of the hotel is that it does need redecorating but its accepetable as it is.

Room Tip: The best rooms attend to be the sea view rooms.
