“In the pink”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

This is a typical seaside tourist hotel. It needs some re-decoration and new carpeting in some areas but the food was very good even though the choice was limited. There was a separate à la carte restaurant, if required, but we travelled down by coach in a group so we ate in the dining room. It was excellent value for money. For the less able, this hotel is on the flat and just about 100 yards from the sea-front. Bus stops are close-by. The outside of the hotel is painted in a bright pink colour and the à la carte restaurant is called "The Pink Fountain", presumably because there is a small fountain in front of the hotel entrance. There is also a small swimming pool. The manager, Peter, is a bit of a character and the staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The Kistor has a lift but I believe there are a few bedrooms not served by the lift so please specif...

just returned from a coach holiday at this hotel 2 to 6 april and found the hotel to be a little bit worn at the edges in places but this did not take anything from the wonderful holiday that we had there.we had a lovely bright and warm bedroom(no48)tv and tea and coffee facilities and lots of hot water for showering etc.the entertainment and bar service was very good.we found the breakfast and evening meals to be excellent always hot and a good menu.our waiter was very good always fast service and friendly.overall a great place to stay and a very good location in the town.

We should've been staying at the Grovesnor but got swapped to the Kistor.
First impressions is that it looks a but like something out of Fawlty Towers!
check in was easy and the room was ready. the rooms are in need of bringing up to date - carpets are shabby and some of the towels are a bit thread bare! The bed was like a bag of pebbles and the pillows are disgusting! There is nothing to them - the ones I had were.
The restaurant was nice and the food was really nice - only moan was the boiled spuds with skins in - it just looked like nobody could be bothered to peel them! Everyone on our table said the same! Sunday meal was the nicest - roast beef & yorkshire pud.
The waiter we had was lovely, very friendly :-)
All in all the hotel is ok but I would rather have the Grovesnor - a local lady told us that Mark books loads of people into the Grovesnor because it is really popular because of his tv programme, but it is over booked and your get moved into either The Kistor or The Inglewood which is not nice if you are expecting the Grovesnor - so watch out if you do book!!!
Sorry mark but have to be honest!

Well, you must remember that Fawlty Towers was based in Torquay which is probably why we look familiar.
As regards to your bed and pillows, you only had to tell us at receptiuon and we would gladly have replaced them for you.
Our New Potatoes traditionally have their skins left on. If they were peeled they would be the size of peas. Besides the skins are good for you.
A 'local lady' told you it's our practice to over book. I didn't know that. I'd like to talk to this 'local lady' I wonder how many other things she can tell me about our business I didn't know.
Regardless of which hotel you stay at you are welcome to enjoy the facilities in any of the the 3 hotels at any time. I apologise if you were expecting to stay at the Grosvenor but over bookings do occurr occassionally, but it is not always our fault. We endeavour to make everyones holiday a good one regardless of which of our hotels you stay at.

I have been staying at the Kistor Hotel for many years and have visited at various times of the year including Christmas. I am writing now as I have just read the review which more or less advised vegetarians not too visit as the Hotel did not cater for vegetarians. I could not really believe the review as there is always a vegetarian choice on the evening menu along with a salad. I personally am not vegetarian but have visited with various relatives in the past and one of them is. She always found something that she was able to eat on the menu. Last summer we had five children from 5 to 12 with us. The staff made us very welcome and were very patient and helpful with them at meal times. As children do they all had food they did and did not like but this was never a problem. Theo who drew the short straw and was our waiter for the week could not have been more patient and helpful. He was their hero!

Peter and Eileen and the rest of the staff never let us down.

We stayed at the hotel from March 12th to March 16th.
The hotel was very clean and the staff polite. The waitor was very efficient and provided a good service too. (The beds were a little hard but that may justt be me being picky!)
The shower is a little too close to the wall and i flooded the bathroom once but that is my only fault! Good entertainment especially bingo done in peters fashion 'ish' and fantastic food Plenty of it too!!
My grandfather is a wheel chair user and peter made sure everything was alright for him.
Highly recommended hotel only a stone throw from the beach and around 10 minutes walk from the town, A good hotel good staff brilliant value for money
Many Many thanks to all of the staff who did everything to make it a pleasurable stay at the kistor! (we stayed in room 43)

Room Tip: if you want a seaview ask for rooms looking toward the north (pleasant views)

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this review. I am pleased that you highlighted our four key attractions for the Kistor!
S.E.L.F. we aim to provide service that is fast but at the same time easy going and helpful. we have entertainment every night, provided by top local artistes. Our location is one of the best in the bay. On the level and close to great amenities but far enough away from the noise of a busy town. Yes, our food is good and plentiful. I eat here most nights and i confess to being fussy, I think it's great too. This is not a plug but a true depiction of our great hotel.
See you again soon..
