My wife and I have stayed in B&B's all over the country and this is by far the first place that we have stayed in that we were made to feel truly at home in. We stayed here for one week and it more than met not just our needs but that of our 85 year old mums expectations and needs.

Martin and Marcia made us welcome by meeting us all at the car. Martin took charge of the suitcases and helped us with moving in. The rooms themselves are all uniquely laid out with comfortable beds that we actually enjoyed sleeping in. The rooms are clean and well taken care of. The free internet connection was always available.

Travel to and from Burleigh house is extremely easy, the bus and train are less that 2 minutes away but you can never hear them. The thing that I enjoyed the most is the breakfast! Martins cooking and Marcia’s attention to our needs was more than accommodating.

We were well-cared for, And would gladly make this recommendation to anyone who’s looking for the perfect place - thank you Martin and Marcia

Location: About 60 seconds walk from Torre train station (it's a road away from the station, so you don't hear the trains). From this point of view, it was great for us, as we just caught a train from Torre to Paignton, which is where the historical steam train departs (to Dartmouth). There is also a bus to Torquay waterfront which departs opposite the B&B which the owners told us about, as well as how to walk to Torquay. For the record, we ended up driving as it felt like it would be a lot quicker. So if you don't have a car and plan to spend a lot of time in the waterfront area of Torquay, you may want to look for somewhere closer. Otherwise, this is is the only minus point I can think of (hence 4 stars rather than 5) and if location is no problem I wouldn't hesitate to book.

Service, Atmosphere: A friendly couple run the place and they were very welcoming, giving us helpful tidbits on where to go and what to see. Breakfast was always tasty, and had a bit more variety (traditional english breakfast, a salmon dish, or something else that I didn't really take note of) than the other place we stayed in central Torquay (went over Easter but neither place had sufficient accomodation for the entire time so we split our stay in half). The lady would take our orders each morning with a friendly "Pick as much as you want, or as little as you want".

Rooms: Rooms were well kept. Room service/cleaning was done daily. The rooms are quite bigger than what you would find in a more traditional "European" room. The TV was a small/medium sized but modern LCD and the bed comfortable. Plenty of drawers to unpack clothes into for longer stays. The bathroom was a winner - spacious, clean and modern. If I had to be critical, my only complaint would be the water pressure in the shower could be better (it is somewhere between normal and weak) but compared to other UK & European places we've stayed in, it's still acceptable.

Sleep: No loud background noises and no glaring lights from the surrounding area coupled with the comfy bed resulted in a great sleep.

Value: We booked close to last minute before Easter and they gave us a good deal. A lot cheaper than staying in the waterfront.

Overall: If you have a car, and like a nice B&B with modern rooms yet homely atmosphere then I would recommend staying here.

Just stayed for one night, but well and truly looked after! Martin helped us in with our luggage and gave us a drink up in our room once settled. Also, he showed us the best route to the function we were attending that night.....nothing was too much trouble!!
Room was excellent, nice shower and bathroom.
Breakfast was lovely......choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, a wonderful fry-up and toast with tea of coffee.
Please, if you go to Torquay, stay here....you won't be disappointed!!!

I was down in Torquay on a business trip, and had planned to do the normal Travelodge experience (i.e. you know what you're getting - not much!). I'm thoroughly glad I took the time to check out the opposition though.

The owners were really friendly and didn't mind the obscenely late hour I turned up. The room was immaculate, with a good shower, an excellent TV and an extremely comfy bed. The breakfast was superb (full English - nice!) and the overall approach was irreproachable.

It's too easy when travelling on business to plump for the obvious option of the chain. Take a moment to pause though; for the same price (or cheaper) you can get friendliness, better facilities and a cracking breakfast.

Bit of a no-brainer really!

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with everything you need. We came as a group of friends and were out for new years eve so were unable to get to breakfast in time but as we were going to leave they offered us some cereals and toast and insisted we stayed. We would definately recommend this B n B and we will be back! Thankyou :)
