Stayed here from 7 Jan for a short break post Christmas & New Year. It was a superb value break. Our room - although unrequested - was forward facing over the marina. Food was good and the staff were very pleasant in the face of what must have been a full or near full hotel - so lots to look after. The hotel was a tad tired, but lets not forget it's at least partly the customers treatment of the hotel which determines how long it looks pristine. Included in our 4 night stay were 2 trips and 4 drinks vouchers each per night. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to others looking to stay in the area, it's location is ideal for shopping, entertainment and transport links.

First impression of the bedroom was disappointing, no sea view. Was dark when we arrived so when we entered the bedroom it seemed very dark with the dark furniture which was dated. The bathroom was light and modern. Once we had recovered from our journey we found it wasnt that bad.The room and the hotel as a whole was very clean. The staff from reception to entertainment were excellent. The restaurant staff were fast and efficient, our waitress Iwona was excellent never had to wait for anything. Good variety of entertainment from Monday to Thursday . For what you pay it is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

Another visit to the Torbay Hotel on a Shearings mid-week break. Firstly, I had not paid extra for a sea view or up-graded room nor requested a high floor this time but our room was on the top floor and faced the rear of hotel sideways on. This does avoid traffic noise but the view is not exactly good consisting of a cliff face, fire escapes, wiring, air vents etc. plus lots of stairs (the tiny lift meaning quite a long wait at times - this is not a complaint about the size of the lift as this is unavoidable, I don't think it is possible to put a new, larger one into the hotel).
The room was rather small (a twin as requested) but clean and functional although the beds and bedding were rather old and not that comfortable. The bathroom had been renovated and was very clean with a new basin, toilet & shower and, although tiny, was nice to use. Dining room service was mainly good but unfortunately on our final morning was very slow (we waited 40 minutes between prunes and the main course) - it's a shame that there isn't an earlier breakfast slot offered on the days that the coaches leave as everyone comes down at once and this causes delays for some people. Food mainly very good and always hot. The entertainment was OK - a new resident host (Kevin) plus some visiting cabaret acts (who all looked a lot older than their publicity photos!) - we also had a little dancing before the bingo and cabaret each evening. Reception staff were very helpful - we had an immediate response when our radiator didn't come on and we were cold - with someone putting this right straight away although it was quite late in the day. We choose this hotel as it is very well situated for the town and for buses to places such as Exeter, Brixham, Pagnton etc. and has good food plus entertainment in the evenings.
We also enjoyed one of the Shearings trips out - to Plymouth plus a drive over Dartmoor (which, although we have 'done' this several times, is a good day out).
All in all another very good winter break - we will visit again I am quite sure.

Hi seasie dancer and thans for postng a review of your recent stay with us. It is always pleasing when guests like yourselves return time after time and i am pleased that you enjoyed this stay and will be coming again. Departure days are very difficult with trying to get the cases down and 200 guests at the same time and it can be a rush when everyone comes in at once for breakfast, but the staff do work as quickly as they can and if there was a delay, i will apologise for that.I am glad that your maintenace issue was rectified quickly and that you were not cold for long. I look forward to seeing you again soon for another holiday with us.
