Hi darelynmick, Thanks for taking the time to post a review and I am glad that your second visit to us is even better than your first. The wheel is a great addition to the bay and its good that you liked it. Also thanks for your kind words regarding the rest of your stay, its always nice to hear when people enjoy their holiday with us. All I can say is that we look forward to seeing you again soon.

I recently stayed at the Torbay Hotel for 3 nights in a single room. I paid £104 + £15 single supplement + £21 for front facing room + £15 for car parking, in total £155. The plus points were, excellent food, friendly staff, pleasant bar and sitting areas and evening entertainment. On the negative side, the parking was a good 10 minutes walk away and partly uphill, and the single room that I had, although clean was rather dull and dated.

However on the whole I would recommend the hotel as being value for money.

We stayed here for 3 nights and chose it specifically for the 70's entertainment weekend entertainment, the headliners (Bootleg Bee Gees) were really good and the other 2 nights were reasonable too.
The staff were all helpful and I cant really fault the food, certainly not gourmet standard but all well prepared and tasty.
The hotel is in a prime location and ideal for a river cruise to Dartmouth.
I cant really find fault with our room for the price we paid, it was quiet and comfortable, although the TV was very old and didn't work brilliantly.
There is a very small lift, not a problem for us as we are fit and our room was on the 2nd floor so we never had to use it, but there seemed to be a permanent queue of elderly people waiting to go up or down.
The public toilets off the ballroom weren't very nice, but the ones off reception were absolutely fine.
Altogether a reasonable stay for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: For a quiet night go for a back room, no view but no noise.

We have just spent a long weekend at the bay torbay hotel we went with shearings ,,, we were picked up at 9'55 in walsall and we arrived at the hotel at 7'15 we spent 3 hrs on the service station at strencham waiting for a feeder coach that was coming from Cawley but the coach driver was heading for chawley, the coach driver just kept telling us 10 mins and we will be on our way, upon reaching the hotel we were taken straight into dinner as soon as we sat down the food was there waiting I have never been so rushed at no fault of ours, all weekend every mealtime felt like a production line, the meals were very small and some were not nice ,breakfast was so tiny as soon as you ate your porridge your breakfast was there and waiting toast was cold it was like it had been done earlier, Rooms were fine bed was lovly and comfy very quiet a good nights sleep .. Entertainment should of been a seventies weekend it was awful there was none at all on Sunday except for a game of bingo a quiz and a man playing some music.this should of been a lovly weekend it was my husbands birthday ,,,,,.

Room Tip: The bed was so comfy room 311 front facing.

just returned from a 5 day break with shearings and after reading some of the reviews we were a bit concerned about booking this trip but the hotel was fine our room overlooked the harbour and some of the town (room 402) it had a comfy double bed, wardrobe, 2 comfy chairs, table, dressing table with large mirror over it, a full length mirror on wall, bedside tables with lamps, flat screen tv and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was on the small side but had toilet, wash basin and shower cubicle and was perfectly adaquate. The room looked as if it had just been refurbished, We found it a bit noisy at night but it didnt keep us awake. The food was really nice and always hot with a varied menu each night. Breakfast was a choice of fruit juice or cereals and full english or there were other things to choose from plus tea coffee and toast. All the staff we met were very nice and polite and our waitress (think it was petra) was lovely and never kept us waiting for anything. The lady who cleaned our room even came and knocked on our door one day because just as she was leaving she could'nt remember putting a clean towel in our room (she had) so she just wanted to make sure which we thought was really nice of her. The only downside was the lift it is really small and takes ages to come,in fact if you are able its quicker to use the stairs especially when luggage is being moved about. Really glad we did'nt take any notice of the people who wrote bad reviews.

Room Tip: try to get a front facing room for the view

I stayed at the Torbay Hotel for three nights in late September with my three friends. We booked two twin rooms which were located on the second floor (Rooms 235 & 237). We did not pay too much for the weekend but we were all very disappointed with the condition of the rooms we stayed in. I will try to summarise our observations: - the rooms are very dated (the décor was 10 to 15 years old), the bed linen was faded and smelly, a musty smell throughout the room, broken toilet seat, broken shower, cracked lampshade, lumpy mattresses, paintwork flaky and peeling, condensation on the windows, a ceiling leak which dropped onto the carpet. Whilst talking to other guests who were equally disappointed we were told that one guest found ants in their room and another guest saw a mouse in the main hotel toilets. Also the entertainment was lacking but I guess this was due to the time of year we visited. The hotel rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment. The only positive comments I have to say about our trip is that the staff were very conscientious, polite and friendly and the food was okay.

Thank you CG Stewart for posting a review and I would first like to say thank you for postive commnest regarding the food and particularly the staff during your recent stay with us. We do have an ongoing refurbishment programme with our bedrooms and you can see from the postings from guests that stay in them that, they are to a very high standard. I am sure that you appreciate that we cannot do everything at once but we are working around the hotel as fast as we can and hopefully if you return you can see it for yourselves. I will of course look into the maitenance issues mentioned , but I cannot answer your other comments as we have had no reports of ants or mice at all?

Shearings Torbay hotel is a great place to stay. The staff are first class, the manager Matt is very helpful and Jane in housekeeping couldn't be more helpful. The food is first class with several choices to choose from and the overall cleanliness is really good. Can't wait for our health to improve so we can get back there.
