All the downstairs areas except the dining room have been decorated and upgraded except for the dining room which I am sure will be on the cards. The corridors on each of the four floors have new carpets and have also been decorated. Well done.
We were allocated room 209 which had recently been upgraded and it was very well presented, clean and appealing. However, we did not fancy taking a shower with clear glass in the bathroom windows and overlooked by four other rooms and what appeareds to be a flat roof. We requested a change and this was immediately granted. This room(414) was also well decorated and presented with a shower cabinet instead of a bath. Again, well done.
All the staff went out of their way to ensure any problems were rectified and we could not fault anyone for their lack of enthusiasm in ensuring the stay went well, The food was typical Shearing's fare, acceptable with pleanty of choice.

Thank you TedBetty for your posting and I an glad that you had an enjoyable stay with us. Its good to hear that you were generally pleased with the standard of our new bedrooms and that we were able to sort out your issue to your satisfaction. We do refurbish the hotel including rooms on a regular basis and you will be pleased to know that our restaurant refurbishment is planned for later on in the year, so hopefully if you return you will like what we have done.

just got home from a three day break at the Torbay, enjoyed our selves food was good, location great right in the center of torquay any closer to the water and you will need flippers, I hate to add a down side but I did find the room clean and tidy but very tired, but for what we paid it was great value, thank you would stay again.

Room Tip: only one lift go for a low floor.

Just returned from a Monday to Friday break with Shearings stopping at the Torbay Hotel. We decided to travel by car to the interchange cutting out the long wait till departure to our resort,we left at 10.30 am and after the usual stops on route arrived at Torquay at 5.15 pm.We where briefed on the coach by a hotel rep and given our room keys while our luggage was taken to our room.We where allocated room 212 on the second floor,a rear facing room with not much a view but that was the only downside, the room was decorated to a very high standard with a large bed, modern furniture and a flat screen TV with all the free-view channels, the toilet area was cleaned to a high standard and the shower (no bath) was powerful with abundance of hot water. The towels where changed every day,and the room cleaned every morning by the hard working cleaners.
The restaurant was well run with a good choice of food on the menu, and all cooked to a very high standard, with our waitress (Shelle)working very hard to please us and fellow guests. We did not use the bar area or view the night entertainment because of the high bar tariff,we used the local Wetherspoons 2 mins walk away where you could buy a pint for £2.29.
Our driver/tour-guide Chris amused us on route and on the trips with his dulcid brummie tones and quikey jokes,he`s a credit to Shearings.
Overall a good hotel.great location, polite management and staff with good facilities for the older generation and disabled, well cleaned and maintained,we will be returning to the Torbay at a later date and hope to find it still well run as before, keep up the good work.........Pete & Jean West Yorks.

Room Tip: Rear room for no traffic noise.

Just back from a 4 night self drive break at the Torbay Hotel.Very impressed overall had a sea view room which was ok but felt that the bathroom needed an upgrade. Meals were very good with pleasant and helpful staff . Car parking was a short distance away up a hill but felt that the car was safe. Only downfall which was not the fault of the hotel was the noise from drunks in the early hours which tended to wake you. Apart from this would recommend this hotel to all.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear.

Was really impressed with this hotel. It has had a refurb since my last visit. This has included the bar & lounge areas & a new cafe bar for lunch time snacks.

The main dining area is very nice & the food is excellent. We stayed 5 days & I couldn't complain about a single meal. The choice was good, presentation excellent & portions generous.

Our room was a little dated but very clean & spacious with shower & bath. Hotel staff were very pleasant & professional & readily available to provide assistance.

The hotel location cannot be beaten as its right on the front, a few yards away from the harbour. There is a bus stop directly opposite if you want to take a trip to Cockington or other nearby attractions.

Overall an excellent experience & one I would readily repeat. Well done Torbay Hotel!

Wonderful location in the middle of Torquay with rooms overlooking the harbour and gardens. Traditional style old hotel with updated lounge/seating areas downstairs. The hotel has entertainment in the evenings, bingo etc, but you don't have to join in. We were disappointed that there was no entertainment on the Sun night. The hotel was full up with people from Shearings coach trips, so maybe I wouldn't recommend it for younger people. The central location makes it a great choice for anyone visiting Torquay. We went with my Mum and Dad on a four day dinner, bed and breakfast deal and thought we had received value for money. My Mums complaint (she is in her late 70s) is that there was only one lift. My complaint would be that the dining room tables are too close together. It felt as if we were on the same table as our neighbours. Altogether, great hotel, clean and well run with great beds. Shower a bit um snug, but I am comfortably sized. Car park a little far away from hotel, when there is one nearer, but there is a parking bay outside reception for loading and unloading and the hotel are happy to store baggage. Noise at front of hotel, on busy road could be a problem for some, but in my opinion, the view is worth it. Would go again.

Room Tip: View......front of hotel but avoid if you are noise phobic
