The people who've written how good this hotel is must be mad. Where do i start, the room had windows that wouldnt stay open we had to prop them open with a book. The ceiling above the shower looked like it was about to cave in and the lino in bathroom was mouldy around the sink. The brochure photo of bedroom was misleading and our room wasnt the same as brochure (no flat screen tv thats for sure).meal times too regimented and we waited too long to be served and food not good.no fresh food, full breakfast (not what id call full) hard sausage and smiley faces for breakfast, whats that about.toast cold as soon as you got it and too hard to get knife through.staff were rude when you asked when you were going to be served (after already waiting half an hour). I mean why make everyone be in dining room at 8.30 for breakfast when you had to wait so long to be served.also our table was shared between 6 (you're told to keep same seats for meals all week) and only 1 pot of tea and 1 jug of milk.we had to ask for more every single day and had to wait ages for more. Surely by day 3 they'd know to have 2 pots of tea and 2 jugs of milk on table. Everything was dated from the chipped furniture to the chipped paintwork.nobody ever seemed to man the bar and when i asked at reception if i could have a drink at the bar at 4.45pm (in the hotel manual it states bar open from 2pm until 10.30/11 pm) i was told id have to wait until the coach load of day trippers that had just arrived back had all got off the coach and back in the hotel. Torquay was lovely and the coach driver Allan was great but the hotel and how it was run was awful

Our first holiday with Robinsons travel and excepting for the weather which was not very good, we found the hotel excellent as was the food. The entertainment was the best we have ever experienced in a UK hotel, a special thank you to Andy Oakley and Lee Randall 5 star entertainers. The organised trips were very good only spoilt by the weather but certainly brghtened up by our driver Allan.(HELLO!) The hotel is nicely situated not too far away from anything. Our thanks to all there for a very enjoyable holiday

My sister and I took my 85 year old mum for a holiday with robinsons coach tours. We arrived at 6pm and had to rush to have the evening meal at 6.30, which is a set time every night. The rooms we stayed were on the second floor, were very poorly furnished, dated and in need of a lick of paint. Bathroom had carpet and smelled of urine. Walkin shower had no grabrails, bearing in mind the clientel are usually elderly or maybe disabled. No grabrails near stairs on our floor. The lift is a hazard, dating back to the 30's with a heavy metal door and an internal metal sliding door, nearly trapping your fingers, internal wood panels in need of repair and dirty. Meals too regimented, 8.30 breakfast and dinner 6.30, a bit like being at Butlins. Management staff not helpful at all. A lady staying at the hotel fell and injured her head in the town centre, on return to the hotel she asked if she asked if she could go to the hospital and the manager told her to have her dinner first and then they would take her. This was rediculous as the poor lady might have had concusion, perhaps they ought to take some first aid training. Indoor pool was okay but still no grabrails, also you had to enter either down a spiral staircase or down on the lift through a perculiar corridor, not a good access for the elderly. We were unable to have a coffee outside around the external pool. The bar was shut most the time during the day and had to hunt for the barman. This hotel seems to be managed like a small family run hotel, management serving at meal times, surely they should be at the front of the hotel and not doing waitressing. Entertainment was okay, more for the elderly. Staff (waiter service) in the dining room worked very hard and very pleasant. Rooms shown in the brochure is a refurbished one on the basement level, giving you the impression of a up to date modern room. Not impressed. FAMILY FROM DERBYSHIRE

Robinson's coach holiday - value for money. Food varied choice and good quality. Compliments to the Chef !! Trips, coach driver, staff all fine. Only thing I was disappointed in was the sauna - it wasn't working, all seats broken and the accompanying shower was disgusting and unusable. Yuk!! (I would say it was even worse than the photos already posted). The indoor pool was fine and the gym was obviously newly refurbished so maybe it will be the turn of the 'spa' area next? hope so!! Nearby Cockinton village was beautiful, the harbour/shops of Torquay were very good, bus service good and easy to use. Really enjoyed trip to Totnes too - lovely shops and architecture. Even went to a variety show in Babbacombe and really enjoyed it. Exeter Cathedral charge you £5 to enter. Any questions? please send me a message and will do my best to help

We have just returned from the Abbey Lawn hotel, and had a most enjoyable stay. The hotel had a friendly atmosphere and the food, rooms and entertainment were quite acceptable. The only slight complaint concerned the bathroom. It was quite cramped for space and lacked adequate shelving. The shower was rather awkward to operate and not easy to obtain the required temperature.

We found the management team friendly and helpful, so many thanks to them and also to Gary our young waiter who waited on 20 odd of us single handedly. All in all, a lovely holiday.

We have just returned from an 8 day holiday at this hotel and have nothing but praise for the management and staff who from the moment we arrived went out of their way to make us welcome. The food was varied and plentiful, staff efficient and helpful and housekeeping excellent. As seasoned travellers and in particular of coach holidays we would rate this hotel above average and feel that we could not have received better treatement had it been rated 5*.
