had a 2 night break at this hotel, room was very much in need of new windows and re- decorating.the lift to our room had an awful smell, dinning room was on lower ground floor no good if disabled as lift down to it was out of order, good location and good size car park, hotel staff very friendly and food was excellent, but on the whole the hotel needs a good face lift.

Stayed one night (thankfully). The family room given to us, had a big crack on the wall and across the ceiling, the bathroom floor wasn't very good, the paper on the walls was coming off. Our bed (divan) had a castor missing and had the base on the floor. I know they are in the middle of decorating, but they need to get themselves sorted quickly. The outdoor pool was closed too (empty). The indoor pool looked a bit grubby, although we swam in it, the changing room was grotty! We went elsewhere for an evening meal.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere!

This is the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune to stay in having travel around the world quite a lot.
The room we had was terrible the skirting boards were cracked rotting and hold in places paper marked and loose in places and the on suite was a joke at best. It was that small that if you stooped at the hand basin to wash your back side pushed the sliding door open.
The food was poor. The whole hotel is in need of a total makeover there is not a carpet in the hotel that is fitted properly. The lift can only hold two people and a case at most. The nighttime entertainment was poor. The only good point was the staff doing the best they could with a load of old tat.
If this is the best hotel you can find I suggest you change your hotel reviewer.
Very Very Poor.

We stayed on the 3 floor. Room had stains on the ceiling, nets were torn, cracks in the walls. The shower did not work right. The smell coming from the lift and the 3rd floor hallway made you hold your breath.
Would never stay here again. The room was classed as luxury bedroom with seaview. The pictures do not reflect the room we had at all with the four poster bed.
This hotel needs updating.
The only positive was the bed was comfortable.
not even asked if we enjoyed are stay, but this was probably because they were aware of the state of the room.

Room Tip: dont stay on the 3rd floor

In Summary-
I would say you won't be disappointed if you realise it is at a 2 or 3 star Hotel level and not 4 or 5 star ...Although the Staff Service is at the higher level.
En suite, Tea making facilities in room (but maid failed to restock) , Small tv with 5 good reception channels, Free wifi in reception area, outside telephone in room, room cleaned daily, towels exchanged daily , large car park, excellent dining room, excellent reception.
Entertainment every night is adequate. Usually one man show tributes to all the old stars, a different one each night.. Rat Pack, Elvis, Cliff + Shadows, that sort of thing..
A C+W night on Wednesday, hosted by the local C+W Club, with just a small £2 entry fee for that one. ..
--------------------------------
The Hotel is very, very large .It is dated and has seen better days. But is in a very presentable decor condition..It is a warren of corridors and rooms and little niches, peace and quiet can be found to read...Garden is very adequate..As is back decking patio..
The lifts only hold 2 people with cases.
The rooms are kept very clean on a Daily basis, towels renewed every day. My maid failed to replace any Tea, Coffee or milk resulting in a long trip to reception every evening after a long day out. THAT was the only bad point on Service because the Dining room, bar and reception Service was second to none. Staff very helpful and friendly.
The food was average fair, but served hot, fast and meals were varied every night.
Meat and veg type meals, with a very adequate vegetarian alternative as my friend found out.
At its price level I gave this Hotel 90/100 for overall everything including value for money..
It could do with a handyman to touch up the fadiing bits , like grouting round the bath, but overall
The sea front is downhill about 400 yards away ..Torquay harbour front is approx 2 miles away ..But buses to Torquay stop on this coast road ..or up the Alleyway facing the front of Hotel (80 yards) (Bus pases accepted).....Bus ride is 10 minutes to centre..
A small road train stops at bus/train stop on the hill just down 20 yards from Hotel ..£1-80 single fare in May 2011..to Torquay..
You could do a whole lot worse than this Hotel .......At this level give it a try..

A bagain break by coach (a new experience) and the service/food was first class.
Not the Ritz, but the rooms are comfortable - the atmosphere friendly and helpful.
I can wholeheartedly recommend to all age groups!

Room Tip: Ask about any upgrade.

Our room was ready on arrival, a second floor room with a view. The room was clean and very pleasant although the decor was a little dated, but who spends a lot of time in their room when there is so much to do. The hotel itself was a short walk , approx 10-15 minutes from the town, or to the harbour where there is a huge array of shops. Close to Torre Abbey ruins and gardens. Food was not to the standard that we had enjoyed on our previous visit, but was still acceptable given the price that we had paid for our stay. All the staff were very friendly. Within the hotel there are many little areas tucked away where you can just sit and chill. The bar had happy hours during the day which made the prices very affordable. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Advise of any mobilty problems when booking.
