“Disgusting”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

Where to start...... We booked this hotel through booking.com and arrived on the 5/8 for a 7 night stay. Lets just say that we didn't even take our luggage into the hotel, it has got to be the worse hotel we have ever experienced!! After being shown to our Room if thats what you could call it, we decided this wasn't the hotel for us! There was mould in the bathroom, dust on every surface, tissue paper stuffed into the window to stop the drafts and wet coming in! I wouldn't allow a pet dog to stay in that filth yet alone my 10 year old asthmatic daughter! We complained and demanded a full refund which we had to geT via Booking.com who were very good, then to add insult go injury the Cavendish said lets show u an upgraded room!! For £100 per night i expect a clean, updated room anyway!
Thankfully we were able to book into another hotel for our 7 night stay which was perfect!!
Avoid this place at all cost!!

It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! ! After a long journey to get there we was approached by a lady informing us to sign a document because CH4 was filming . This was a start of what things were to be. We had only booked the night before and was not told of filming, if we had been informed we would not have even contemplated of even stopping there. There were cameras everywhere even in the pool. We were even asked if we would be interested in stopping in a room where cameras would be as you can imagine we refused politely.

We made our way into the entrance, the staff was flapping and the manager was straight away appeared to be shifting the blame. There were no organisation, even in the special evening of entertainment. . . Which was annoying because we was paying guests and that very morning the manager was down on the sea front inviting people to come and watch that nights entertainment therefore paying guests could not even get into the entertainment room to watch it themselves.

The lights in the bathroom was not working properly. Came to pick a towel up one morning to find it was discoloured in brown, I can only hopefully assume it was make up from the guests from before. . . but this leads to the conclusion that the towels was not washed ! Also apart from the cameras being everywhere privacy was an issue within our room. I was walking from the bathroom to the bedroom to find people walking passed our window. it turns out that we have no excess to the patio but the room next door as an access door to sit on patio area but also the were walking up and down so no privacy what so ever.

There was no clear instructions, so when it came to breakfast time it was unclear to what you actually was entitled to. One morning we did not even have a round of toast! Our table was extremely close to the next one, so it felt like you was sitting on top of each other.

The entertainment what we did manage to see was a lot to be desired!

We decided on the last full day to make good of the sauna only to find out you have to pay to use it!

Personally I couldn't wait to get out of there, I certainly wouldn't recommend the hotel and would never visit again.

Room Tip: Check the room before you accept it, for privacy, ie as anyone got access around your windows, ligh...

the room was shabby worn out disgusting

The whole place needs gutting

When we were checking in there had been terrible rain and a lady was telling reception the rain was coming threw the roof into her room their response....they gave her a bucket!

my husband was served Hot meat pate when complained was told it had been frozen and heated up a bit longer than it should in the microwave a recipe for food poisoning.

we intended to stay for 3 nights as filming for CH 4 the hotel but checked out less than 24 hours later .

Have reported the hot pate to Torbay food safety office.

the indoor and outdoor pools didn't looked clean so didn't use.

I really thought in this day and age these so called "Hotels" were a thing of the past.

Firstly all I can say is we are so sorry. We totally understand your position and we have no excuses. Please will you telephone or contact us by email so we can try to put this right. We have been struggling this past couple of years hence the filming but it has in its own way caused stress to our staff . As you probably know we are family run and not one of the big groups and despite working all the hours god sends there seems to be the isolated cases like yours where the room etc has fallen through the net and we can only apologise . I cannot comment on the bucket as we are not aware of this but all we can say is we were assured by our Roofer that the temporary repairs would last through to the Autumn when 2 Roofs are being replaced.
We hope you will contact us.
Kind Regards,

this hotel is a bit run down in parts and a bit smelly , i don't know what it was but as i walked the stairs , different smells were detected on each level , my bathroom had a nasty smell but the extractor fan sorted that out . i liked my room in the loft , it was big and bright with a sea view and a sea gull we called steven, he came to look in the window every day . the food was very good, more than i could eat and the staff were quick and pleasant with a word for each guest and i felt happy to be there . there was a small lift to all floors and although the hotel was full we never had to wait long to go up , we walked down stairs as a rule and always got lost coming down , got it right the last day . i think black out blinds would be a bonus as the sun rise was very early so impossible to get any more sleep after that. the hotel is a short walk away from the sea front and a evening stroll is a must , nice to people watch , lots of young people about but did not feel threatened as they were all well behaved.

Room Tip: a sea view is a must and the higher you go the quieter it gets from footfall and banging doors

Used this hotel for works weekend and had twenty passengers . the food was great and the staff very pleasant , but found parking a problem....... well it is a fifty foot coach after all. The management even got vehicles moved so I could park overnight which was above and beyond their duties.... thanks for that guys....... the view from my room was excellent god panoramic view of Torbay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the rear of the building .....it overlooks the sea.

very good staff shame about the hotel. The room we had was disgusting I don't think the carpet had ever been vacuumed . The shower kept falling off the wall and the whole room was covered in dust. Good service in the restaurant and bar areas .The food was ok tablecloth was covered in stains from previous guests. Overall this was the worst hotel we have stayed in.
