“Very friendly place to stay.”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

Just returned from quick 2 night stay at Kelvin House in order to see Joe McElderry at the Princess Theatre on Saturday night. Joe was great and so was the Kelvin House. The room (room 1) was spotless with all facilities. There is a massive lounge with comfortable, reclining seating and large screen TV. We had specifically asked for a ground floor room because of our mobility problems which the owners, Carl and Sharon, supplied. They certainly could not have been more helpful and friendly. The (full english) breakfast set us up for the day. A very good place for a stay in Torquay, Well recommended!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 & 2 are on the ground floor if you have mobility issues, although there are about 7 or 8...

My boyfriend and I booked this online, which sometimes can be a bit hit and miss but this was a definite hit!
The couple who run it were so friendly and helpful, always smiling and chatting, they gave us tips on where to eat and drink.
The room itself was spotless, the cleanest place we've ever stayed, everything was of a very high standard, it's obvious that these lovely people take great pride in their work and their beautiful house.
We are already planning our next weekend away to kelvin house and can't wait. I would highly recommend this wonderful place to everyone

This small hotel is absolutely spotless and well maintained. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our mini break in Torquay and this was due, in no small way, to the owners of the Kelvin. Carl is a delightful man who was a mine of helpful information, which he readily shared with us. His wife Sharon was never without a cheerful smile and both ensured that our stay was truly memorable. Of special note were the breakfasts. Although all the usual suspects (cereals, croissants, etc) were available, we opted for the freshly cooked to order full English - and what a good choice. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Our three previous attempts to experience good weather in August in the U.K. were disastrous; so it was lovely to arrive at the hotel in bright sunshine, albeit tired after many hours on the M5, and find that our rooms were just what we had hoped for. Travelling with younger members of the family, we were anxious that our booking was suitable for all; so we were pleased to see that the hotel was clean, bright and welcoming.

After a good night's sleep for all but our little grand-daughter, who was in a travel cot; we came down to a super breakfast, with super service. It was so super that by the time that we went home, I had been to town to buy a bigger shirt, such was the generosity of the 'full English'. A ten minute walk past the Abbey brought you straight on to the grassy area of the promenade, and in a further five minutes we were near the theatres and shops. This allowed us to leave the car at the hotel a couple of times, and avoid the pain of traffic in what was a very busy Torquay.

Having young family with us, our evenings were largely geared to getting back to the hotel in line with routine bed times; but we were happy to spend time in our room, watching TV and relaxing after very busy days spent in the area. We were very happy with our overall experience, however, we think that our next visit will be as a couple, rather than a family booking. And next time, I will have a smaller breakfast. Probably leave out the fruit juice!

Room Tip: We booked one of the hotel's bigger rooms, which is definitely worth the extra if you plan to sp...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kelvin House Hotel, and could not have expected a more welcoming host than Carl and Sharon, who were more than helpful enough in advising us about Torquay. This B&B is a lovely clean and homely place to stay, with a fantastic breakfast making our stay even more enjoyable. We would definitely recommend this B&B, and would like to thank you both for such a great stay, Graham, Gillian and Sophie.

We were looking for a last minute get away so booked this hotel. It was absolutely great, Sharon and Carl made us feel instantly welcome, they pointed out restaurants and places to see, breakfast was brilliant and the hotel was spotless and well decorated-we will definitely add this hotel to our A list.
