To see this hotel reopened it very good. The service and the food of the hotel is excellent. We only stayed the one night to give it a try and I would recommend this place. As it has new owners I think people need to give it a chance. I will be recommending this place to my friends and family :)

Our stay was unbelievably awful. The room we had was of a very poor standard. We asked to change and did this twice, eventually settling with the third room but still not up to a decent standard. We were just tired and the beds were clean with new linen. The room service was non existant due to a low number of staff on duty at any one time. We ate in on the first night, but after this we felt we had to eat out each night. Buffett menu choice was limited, Plates were never removed, vinegar bottle had mould floating inside, which when pointed out to the waiter, he moved it to one side (not sure where this was going to end up next!!!!). There are several good pub / restaurants in the area. This is definatley the worse hotel we have stayed in during all our years of travelling and would not receommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Try a different hotel

Having read the 5 star review posted in October after their stay in July 2013 we find it hard to believe that it was the same Sherwood Hotel that we stayed at one month later. Our visit consisted of 2 couples occupying 2 rooms, after being allocated our rooms no one was satisfied with the cleanliness of the rooms, we changed rooms once & our friends changed twice, we finally accepted rooms due to the fact we where on a 5 day package tour & had no option but to stay. The rooms had not been cleaned & the carpets filthy, room condition ranged from mould on the windowsills to curtains hanging from the rails along with crumbling plaster-work & dust so thick on the lamp shades (where they existed!) that you could barely recognise what colour they should be, plus many other defects. The one consolation was that the beds & linen where clean. The evening meals where of such low quality that we chose to dine out after the second meal at our own expense. The hotel was massively understaffed & appeared to have little if any housekeeping staff; this is a shame for a Hotel in a prime, convenient location in Torquay.

first visit to this hotel was with my husband and 3 children. Staff very friendly and helpful, hotel is a typical sea side hotel just what we wanted, short walk from main town, spent most Our time in the lovely garden we sat back and relaxed with lovely friendly staff waiting on us and a safe place for our children to play.Rooms were clean tidy and adequate for my family's needs. Price for stay was great. We booking back as a family soon. Went back to stay at this hotel for a girl's weekend and again all the right boxes ticked. Made us all feel welcome and we all be back again.

The hotel has new owners and they have not got a clue how to run a hotel. Scruffy staff walking around in jeans and tee shirts the barman had jeans and a body warmer on. Entertainment was terrible other than one night we had a good guitar player and singer on god knows where they found the rest. Maybe I will give it another try and hope they get there act together as the hotel is in a good location.
