“A real gem in a great location”
Reviewed 8 October 2011

We stayed at the Ascot House Hotel for 2 nights and were very impressed, especially for the money. We originally booked a standard room which we assumed was en suite. Owners Terri and Bernard quickly confirmed our booking and advised that it wasn't en suite although it did have a private bathroom. As I am pregnant we advised this didn't suit us so they moved us to the Family Suite for only £10 a night extra.
The car park is tight so be careful when you park but Terri would helpfully come out to make sure we had no issues getting out.
Our room was super. It was a great size, beautifully decorated with everything we needed: kettle, fresh milk, huge bathroom, TV with DVD, free WiFi. Plus stunning sea views (and even binoculars to use!).
The hotel is less than 5 mins walk to the High Street where you will find usual High St shops. Or it's about 10 mins walk to the harbour front and lots of restaurants to choose from.
Breakfast was amazing too! When you go down to the dining room you are given a lovely heart shaped plate with a selection of fresh fruits prepared for you, all served beautifully with a dusting of icing sugar! You can then choose from a variety of cooked breakfasts (including veggie), cereals, toast, croissants, brioche etc.)
Terri was on her own when we were there but she was never flustered and always had a smile or tips on where to go or places to eat.
If you are in the area, we can't recommend this little gem enough.

Room Tip: We would definitely recommend the Family Suite.

My daughter and I had a lovely, quiet time in Torquay. Bernard and Terri welcomed us, looked after us so well; outstanding hosts.
Their advice on the things to do in Torquay and on the local restaurants was very useful. The breakfast was delicious and we hope to go back their soon.
The room was clean, warm, luxurious and welcoming.
We really had an amazing time there!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our bank holiday break at Ascot House and found both Terri and Bernard to be wonderful hosts. Not only did they make us feel most welcome but they also gave us great advice on the local restaurants and some lovely village walks. The breakfast was delicious and we were extremely impressed with the fabulous fruit platters. We highly recommend.

My husband and I recently returned to NZ having stayed at several different B&Bs/hotels in the UK. We had a wonderful 5 night stay at Ascot House. Both Terri and Bernard were extremely welcoming hosts and provided a very good service. Breakfasts each morning were delicious. We had a double room which was very comfortable and for the price we paid, we felt it was extremely good value. If we are lucky enough to have another trip to the UK in the next year or so, we would be very happy to stay at Ascot again.

Ascot House is a friendly small hotel with the welcoming feel of a guest house. Terri is a marvellous host and really made me feel very welcome throughout my one week stay (capably supported by both her partner Bernard and her assistant Shanine). The décor at the hotel is highly original and the rooms are charmingly furnished with really comfortable beds. There is a short walk to all the main attractions and there are public transport links nearby making the hotel well situated and easily accessible. A great breakfast menu in addition to superb accommodation makes this place an overall winner on both quality and price. There was a genuinely friendly atmosphere throughout my stay and I was really impressed with the level of service I received from the moment I arrived. It was an ideal getaway and I hope to come back and visit again soon…In fact my only complaint is that I couldn’t have stayed another week! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Discounts for single occupancy make this place great value for solo travellers. All of the rooms are...

We stayed for just one night while visiting our daughter who lives in Torquay having stayed in a Premier Inn previously. There is simply no comparison. Ascot House is just fantastic. The location, the room, the welcome, the food and the price are all wonderful. Needless to say, we will be back next time we are visiting Torquay. I particularly liked the car park challenge!
