We have stayed overnight in The Ascot House Hotel and had an amazing time. Terri & Bernard were lovely hosts ensuring our every need was met. The breakfast was wonderful and the gothic suite we stayed in was perfect. Our only regret is that we weren't staying longer!

Yes, you'll have to stay longer next time! And thanks so much for taking the time to review your short stay with us! Nothing makes us happier than hearing guests have thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the area, and if we're able to contribute to that, all the better. Don't forget to contact us directly if and when you do make it back down as we offer returning guest discounts!
All the best,
Terri & Bernard

The suite we stayed in at Ascot House Hotel was perfect in every respect. Extremely spacious and with a very high quality of furniture and furnishings, the room was very comfortable and homely. The proprietors made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpful. Could not recommend highly enough.

Room Tip: not sure what the other rooms were like but the luxury suite lived up to its name

We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and that you found the Luxury Suite to live up to its name! We've put a lot of consideration into the spaces we've had to work with - how to use them to their full potential and then categorise them by name and price accordingly. We hope you'll visit us again on any future visit to Torbay - and maybe try our Sea View Suite (definitely on par with the Luxury!)

We booked the Gothic suite for a weekend and it was excellent. The room size was perfect for our stay, the lounge as part of the suite is ideal to relax in. The breakfast was delicious and served with the usual high standards as seen throughout the hotel. A first class hotel with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Gothic room is perfect for a couple.

We are really glad that you appreciated our Gothic Suite and that it formed an excellent base for the wedding you attended in Torquay, including the rationale behind our turning all our accommodation into suites, providing our guests with spacious living/relaxing areas away from the bedroom and bed! Many thanks indeed for taking the time to make us feel that it has all been worth it. Much appreciated.

With a colleague spent five very comfortable nights here whilst working in the area. The house is well decorated and very tastefully furnished throughout. Terri looked after us very well and never seemed to stop working, even carrying my large bag to the top of the house. She also makes delicious breakfasts to order using high quality local produce and the choice is excellent. I especially recommend the lovely fruity marmalade as a little extra after your fruit and hot food!

The house may not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties as it's a tall building with extensive staircases, but provided you are ok with stairs, the standard of accommodation is extremely good. Thee are lots of little touches that mean you won't need to go without anything. Hmmm, perhaps remember your shampoo and conditioner as bathrooms have multi purpose dispensers and ladies will usually want to use specific products. This isn't a problem, merely an observation to assist those booking. Thoroughly recommend Ascot House and only wish Terri offered dinner as I'm sure it would b excellent!!!

The location is pretty convenient once you master the one way system.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a positive and constructive review that, I'm sure, will prove informative for prospective guests. We are glad that you appreciated the way we have decorated Ascot House Hotel. Our aim is to provide the best of both worlds, combining modern comforts with features and fittings that are in keeping with a building that is nearly 150 years old.
We note you comments about toiletries, which is something to which we have given much thought. In the end, we decided that dispensers with high quality Mason and Miller body and hair lotion would be the best 'suits all' compromise. We absolutely agree with you that most guests bring their own and do not make use of it, since most ladies (and men!) are very specific about what they use.
Many thanks, too, for your kind comments about Terri and the fact that we try to think of everything that our guests may like/want, which is an impossible task in many ways; this is why we positively encourage our guests to make comments and suggestions at the earliest opportunity so that we can accommodate them while they are still with us.

Many thanks indeed for such a complimentary review. We do try our best and such kind words keep us motivated. We are very grateful and hope to welcome you again in our Luxury Suite or another one... maybe our Sea View Suite? Similar size, including the bathroom, but with the views across the Bay towards Brixham.

Myself, my husband and our 14 year old son stayed for 5 days at Ascot House Hotel during the week before Easter weekend.

We stayed in the sea view suite on the very top floor floor with lovely views of the sea and Torbay.
The suite was very spacious, with lots of storage space as well as tea and coffee making (complete with bone china mugs rather than standard mugs which were lovely, and fresh milk) plus a fridge.
There is a TV in the bedroom as well as in the lounge area where our son slept on the comfortable sofa bed so he was able to watch TV in bed before we got up. The owners have clearly spent a lot of money on the bed as it was extremely comfortable, with a feather/down duvet.
One small thing to note, however, is that there is no door between the bedroom and the lounge so if there is a snorer in your family it could be an issue but it certainly wouldn't put us off booking the room again.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and we were very well looked after by Terri and Bernard. They were very helpful in recommending places to see and things to do. Torquay is a good place to be based for touring the Torbay area. The hotel is a 15 minute downhill walk away from Torquay harbour.
How refreshing it was to come across a hotel which really welcomes children and caters for them with spacious facilities. All of Ascot House's rooms are suites. There are 5 suites and I understand 4 of them will sleep at least 3 people. Too many hotels and holiday accommodations will not accept children so it is good to have a hotel where the majority of the rooms WILL accommodate children.
During our stay I did manage to have a little nosy at some of the other rooms which all looked lovely, especially the Gothic suite and the Luxury suite as they have a shared balcony towards the front of the hotel.
I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to others and we look forward to staying there again.
Many thanks Terri and Bernard for a most enjoyable holiday!

Room Tip: Sea view suite for the sea view! Gothic suite or Luxury suite for space and balcony

Many thanks indeed for your very kind and full review of our hotel. As you mention, we have, over the years, turned Ascot House Hotel from a run down 12 bedroom hotel to a 5 suites boutique-style hotel that can accommodate families, in each suite, from 3 to 5. Our Sea View Suite, where you stayed, has a king-size bed, a double sofa bed and a single bed/daybed.

We note with interest you comment about the lack of a door between the bedroom and the living-room areas. It is an issue that we considered very carefully when we created that suite last winter since we actually removed the door to the bedroom to give a lighter, more open-plan feel to the suite... but we take your point and I know that Terri's opinion was that the door should stay! The opinions are, now that the Suite has been used by a number of people/families, still very divided... but we are listening and the door may well go back in the future!

We are delighted, too, that you appreciated our attention to detail which is inspired by what we would like to find in hotels where we stay and often don't find, including our mugs! Tea does taste so much better in bone china!

Thank you so much, hoping to welcome you again at Ascot House Hotel.
