This hotel has now gone significantly downhill, after they built an additional block of rooms. Not only have they added an additional 200 (smaller) rooms, but they have actually drastically reduced the number of parking spaces available. On arrival we found no free spaces, and had to park in the adjacent council owned car park (£1.50 per hour). On complaining about this we were told that the parking was on a first come first served basis and they refused to reimburse us for the cost.

The new building has no direct wheelchair ramp, which makes it tricky for getting in/out with a pushchair, and probably impossible with a wheelchair.

The cooked breakfast which used to be served piping hot from the kitchen has now been changed to a self-serve buffet, with luke warm beans and scrambled eggs.

The couldn't care less attitude of the staff with regard to the parking, and the blatant attempt to maximise their occupancy at the expense of parking spaces has led me to consider looking elsewhere for accommodation for our annual trip to Torquay.

Room Tip: Book a room in the old part of the hotel (more spacious) Arrive very early to ensure you get a park...

My husband and I stayed here for one night to attend an awards ceremony at the nearby Riviera Conference Centre. We left with mixed feelings. The check-in process was ok, a little on the slow side and lacking information but not too bad. The location is ideal for the Conference Centre and the hotel is situated across the road from the beach and within a 10 minute stroll of the town. There is ample car parking which I believe was free to residents. The room was of standard Premier Inn quality, sizeable enough, and was very clean, as was the bathroom. Again, information was lacking. We were trying to find out from the various blurb in the room what time breakfast was served. We eventually found it on the back of the little "we want to be environmentally friendly" card that encourages you to not cause any extra laundry.

When we did go down to breakfast, it was towards the end of the serving period and the two waiting staff were more interested about talking about a chap they fancied. There were several people aside from ourselves waiting for the cooked items to be replenished, there was no orange juice, no hot water and no ordinary teabags. If you are going to serve breakfast from, for example, 6am to 10am, the person eating at 6am should not have a different experience from the one eating at 9.30am. I feel this may have been avoided had the waitresses not been busy nattering. Also, it would have been quite simple to say that they were not going to cook another full tray of eggs or beans and just ask us what we wanted.

Overall, it was not a terrible experience in terms of the room or the price we paid but we would certainly not bother with breakfast again. This was February so I have no idea how they cope in the busy season. We would consider staying here again for a quick overnighter but there are plenty of other hotels in Torquay we would consider first.

Just across the road from the sea, this hotel (the original building previously the Belgrave Hotel) is a short walk from the train station. Good views from the bar and restaurant.Premier Inn breakfasts really can't be beaten. Onsite restaurant is a Beefeater. Do check the Beefeater website before you go for any discounts, we saved quite a bit that way. 15 minutes to centre of town and the harbour along the sea front. Lots to see and do. Recommend Kents Cavern and Living Coast, especially the penguin beach:) And we chose dates that gave us £29 rooms! We will return.....

What I do love about Premier Inns is their good standard right accross all of their hotels, what I loved about my recent trip to this one was the helpful receptionist who very kindly upgraded us to a lager room at no extra cost.
The downside was not having a phone in the room so that when we ran out of tea and milk we had to go over to reception to get some.
However, to balance tht inconvenience, when I got there I was given loads of tea, sugar and milk from the same lovely young lady who had checked us in the previous day.
Now that is what I call customer service, well done Torquay!

Room Tip: The corner room in the new part is bright and spacious. Room 620!

Fully up to the standard I expect of Premier Inn, with the location being ideal for holidayers - although as a engineer staying over for one night during the winter I was unable to take advantage of what the town has to offer!

The car park is slightly confusing - if you go too far round the back and pass under the height restrictor you are in the council car park and have to pay, whereas around the side you just need to get a chit from reception to display in the windscreen for free parking.

And just a small point, the television remote was missing. But I was more interested in the bed having long days behind and ahead of me.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view!
