“'Mixed opinions of this hotel'”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

The hotel room we stayed in was comfortable, if a little basic considering the price we paid. I was concerned about the housekeeping when we noticed a plastic cover for a disposable razor left on the bathroom floor near the bath by a previous guest (and which remained there during our three day stay). The location of the hotel was great with fantastic views of the sea and the park in front. The town centre was within easy walking distance. The hotel reception staff were very helpful. However, I have mixed reviews about the adjacent Beefeater restaurant. There was a wide variety of breakfast options and the service we received from the waiter, Paul, was warm, friendly and welcoming. Although on one occasion, I had to notify staff about the dirty bowls by the fruit section, but I guess this could happen anywhere. Breakfast service was in contrast to our evening dining experience, starting from when I tried to book a table for the evening. The restaurant manager was unhelpful and a little 'standoffish' in his manner when I enquired about the booking process (he was like this to me the following evening too). When we did manage to get a table, the food was very nice, but was spoilt by two children running up and down in the restaurant. Other diners such as myself had children, but were mystified why the restaurant staff (and the children's parents) allowed the disruption by these two. Needless to say we only had dinner once at the Beefeater, instead choosing to dine at one of the local restaurants in town, who were more welcoming, served better food and where comparable in price!!

Room has constant creaking floor boards every time you moved, very annoying with a family of four in the room. Children running up and down the floor in neighbouring rooms seemed to boom through the walls. Room got very hot but unable to use the air conditioning due to its extreme noise. Noise from outside the hotel on the Friday night was terrible from midnight for around two hours with drunk people returning/passing by, this was not the case on previous night.
Hotel position itself is excellent for access to the beach and torque town, staff in the hotel very friendly, restaurant attached served excellent food.
Not enough parking for all hotel guest with people double parking or parking on grass areas etc.

Ideal Location for beach front and walking to the Theatre, Harbour and town. Excellent family rooms with a bath and shower. Beefeater attached with good food at reasonable prices. Breakfast buffet is in the beefeater in the morning and is excellent.

Room Tip: Family room 121, good size room and bathroom.

Stayed here for 4 nights in the new block, room 601. Great room, big, clean and very comfortable bed. Some noise coming from the contractors and building work going on in the next car park which our room overlooked, but didnt seem to start until after 8am.
Room cleaned to high standard and towels changed when requested.
Car parking is good for Torquay, we have struggled at other places in the past and find yourself loathed to go anywhere for fear of losing a car parking space. Its free to guests and quite big. Fine to come and go during the day, the only time we struggled for a space was when we returned late one night. We parked in the carpark attached for an overnight charge of around £3.
Location is great, on the seafront and a short walk around the front and your in the marina. Very pretty walking back on an evening.
We had burgers in the beefeater bar one afternoon, again very reasonable as they were on the lunchtime menu and very nice, with bottomless chips!
