Having stayed at the fantastic Frognel Hall for Christmas / New Year for the past seven years, I finally managed to fit a long hoped for summer visit into my schedule. I even added an extra week to my original fortnight’s booking! Stephen and Amanda couldn’t be better if they were family, and are attentive but not intrusive hosts.

My attractive and well serviced room was furnished with a comfy bed, a desk / dressing table, two chairs, ample storage space, and tea / coffee making facilities. The decoration was tasteful, with well chosen fittings and ornaments, and a sensibly equipped shower room with toilet was en suite. Frognel Hall is blessed with wonderful gardens, and there was a pleasing view of these from my window. These grounds further enhance the building’s exceptional character.

The delicious meals were well prepared with good quality ingredients, suiting a variety of tastes and dietary requirements. All of the imaginative menus had interesting alternatives and tempting desserts (e.g. panna cotta, tarte tatin). A comprehensive morning menu yields a hearty breakfast of top-notch items (juices, cereals, really full English / continental etc.) rounded off with toast and preserves.

Local amenities, such as the beach, harbour, shops and bus access to Torbay’s host of attractions and beauty spots, are within easy reach of the hotel. Those who drive have ample parking space and full access to the surrounding area.

All in all, another superb experience!

This was our first visit to Frognel Hall and we were greeted by Stephen on arrival and made to feet very welcome. Our spotlessly clean twin bedded room on the second floor overlooked the hotel main entrance but was quiet and well furnished and equipped & inc tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer and had very comfortable beds. We did however find the shower run from the bath taps and without a shower screen slightly odd and inconvenient if standing to shower and had difficulty stopping some water spraying onto the floor. A shower screen would be really useful here.
We only had breakfast at the hotel and we were served at table by Amanda one of the proprietors who was very friendly and who made us feel at home There was ample choice of cereals, fruit juices and tea or coffee and being on a holiday we decided to forget diets for once and go for the full English which proved excellent and of very generous size. Had we stayed any longer than five days we would have had to have cut down and taken the continental option also on offer. There was an table d'hote evening meal option available and the menu was varied but we did not avail ourselves of this option.
The hotel car parking was ample and we were never blocked in and there were nice gardens to sit in too. The hotel was very convenient for the harbour & town centre with a 5 minute downhill walk into town but quite a steep uphill walk on return which might not suit some older guests or anyone with mobility problems.
We had originally booked a 9 day stay at Frognel but my wife developed a knee problem on the first day which severely restricted her mobility though we continued with our planned holiday and explained our problem to Stephen and Amanda. Fortunately there was a lift which was really useful with us being in a second floor bedroom. Despite our best efforts my wife's knee problem became worse and despite the loan of a walking stick by Stephen we were unable to enjoy our holiday to the full and the hilly location became inconvenient. We decided we would have to cut our holiday short and return home after only 5 days and Stephen and Amanda were both very sympathetic and we thought we would still have to pay the full holiday price for the period booked. We were both grateful and pleasantly surprised when all we were asked to pay was a very small increase on the daily rate for 5 days instead of our originally agreed full 9 day deal price. We could well imagine than many other hotels would have still hit us with the full price for early departure despite our reasons. We are most grateful to Stephen and Amanda and this sort of service and kindness makes us want to return and recommend the hotel to others.
Certainly one of the friendliest hotels we have stayed in for a very long time and we wish them well for the future

We have been staying at frognel hall for some years now and each time gets better.
Stephen and Amanda make you feel so at home, nothing is to much to ask.
To us they are like true friends and we go twice a year for 2 weeks even have christmas with them ,and friends we have met over the years
The food is great I am a funny eater and they go out of there way to please me,And my better half always enjoys the choice of food and how good it is
Please try going yourself and enjoying a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the town. With the beach only beach a short walk away

Once again a super holiday at the frognell hall hotel, we live in Majorca but try to get over to Torquay to see family and friends at least once a year, and have for the past few years stayed at this hotel, why change when you always have such a good time?
We have had two parties over the last couple of years which have always been beautifully catered for, so where else to have my special 60th birthday, we had thirty guests to a finger buffet, which could not have been beter, then MAC came along to sing the night away, absolutely wonderful, thank you so much Mac and of course owners Amanda and Steven for making my birthday so special. Hope to see you again soon.

We have just returned from our fourth very enjoyable 9 days stay at Frognel Hall Hotel.
The standards are consistently high and in our opinion Frognel merits a higher star rating.
Stephen and Amanda are fantastic hosts who do all they can to ensure their guest's have an enjoyable stay.
On this visit we stayed in the Masters Room, which is a lovely spacious room charmingly furnished with an extremely comfortable four poster bed.
Food is of a very high standard, breakfast is first class with plenty of choice.
We have always chosen to have dinner at the hotel simply because the food is so good.
The well chosen menu's provide excellent variety of dishes and we were always spoilt for choice.
Thank you Stephen and Amanda for making our holiday so enjoyable and we very much look forward to our next visit.

In essence I want to score this hotel very highly but it has negatives.Value for money it can not be faulted. The quality of the food is more than acceptable and the owners and staff are both friendly and efficient. Despite being clean and tidy the state of decoration is tired in places and needs considerable ongoing attention. Our room was a good size but others in our party were less satisfied in that respect. I would use it again but remember it is a seaside hotel and not the Savoy.

Room Tip: Ask about the room size before booking

Once again, the band stayed at their usual hotel Frognel Hall, which as usual is a lot of fun, the staff are great, the food is great, it's a very attractive place to stay as well.

Also I had car trouble whilst I was there and Stephen gave me a hand getting her back up and running, as a fellow classic car enthusiast himself!
