“An excellent base for exploring”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

We stayed here as a base, primarily for attending the race meeting at Newton Abbot.
Amanda and Stephen were our friendly hosts and easy to get along with. No airs and graces, straight forward and decent.
We stayed on B & B basis only so cannot comment on evening meals.
Good selection of options for breakfast, which were freshly made and satisfying.
Our room had a double bed (two singles zipped together), which was comfortable. As the hotel was away from the town centre, it was very quiet at night with no passing traffic. Nice thick curtains resulted in a nice dark room for sleeping. Nothing to do with the hotel, but hardly any seagull noise first thing in the morning, which was a bonus.
The hotel had a lift, which was great for getting cases/holdalls up to the 2nd floor.
Our only criticism and this didn't adversely effect our stay, concerned the bathroom. This is the first hotel that we have stayed in that didn't have a wall mounted shower in the bathroom. We had a "hand held shower attachment" from the bath taps - not used to showering sat down in the bath. Maybe worthwhile modernising this room and others if required to have wall mounted shower with screen?

An excellent location for good walks along the cliff top or through Torquay. The welcome, as always, very warm and friendly from hosts Steve and Amanda. We were given the Master's Suite with large comfortable four-poster bed. The food was well prepared and tasty and very satisfactory. We could only stay 3 nights but experienced total relaxation in the beautiful surroundings. We look forward to our next visit.

A group have visited here three years on the trot for a weekend break. The accomodation and food is always very good and it is good value for money. Marcel entertained us on the Saturday night and he is very good with his range of music and jokes. He entertained us on our 2012 visit and we specially requested him again this year. Stephen and Amanda are very good hosts. Thank you yet again for another lovely stay.

Stayed for 2 nights. Staff fantastic, helpful and friendly. Room large, bed large and comfortable. The bathroom was roomy. Everything was very clean. The breakfast was more that satisfactory.

In all, this was a most satisfactory stay.

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. Accomodation was very good and the owners were very friendly and welcoming without being too intrusive. We had breakfast only option, which was faultless with plenty of options. The rooms were pleasantly clean and had all the facilities. The hotel is set in beautiful and peaceful grounds, but only 5-10 minutes walk downhill from the bustling harbour (10-15 minutes back up the steep hill!). Overall for the price we paid I could not fault this hotel and would definitely stay again, ten out of ten. I wish Stephen and Amanda all the best as they certainly deserve it.

Decided on a last minute break and found this hotel through the English Riviera site.Wanted a hotel near to the harbour and this is a ten minute walk away.(Slightly longer coming back as it is up quite a steep hill which would not suit some people - also interesting late at night if you take the short cut through the back gate/garden as very dark.)
Like similar properties of its age it could do with a bit of tlc. The room we stayed in(Sarahs room) was however very clean and well presented. The couple who run the hotel were very friendly and welcoming.Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is in a very peaceful setting with plenty of parking space.

We stayed at the Frognel Hall this summer for 3 nights with two children aged 8 and 11 in the family rooom. Accomodation was very comfortable, breakfast was excellent and hosts were very friendly and nice people. Very customer focused, nice grounds, very easy to get about location with an old charm of Victorian era. Excellent value for money. Torquay is a bustling holiday place with plenty of things to do. Real English riviera.
