We were asked by my partners family to join them at the derwent for the christmas period they have stayed at this hotel 2-3 times already. we booked a christmas package christmas eve christmas day boxing day in a double room,
we found the hotel very easily but the car park was harder to find after going around the side roads we finaly found it space's were limited but we got a space
after unloading our luggage we found the rear entrance has a flight of stairs and no lift not easy for getting luggage down.other wise a long walk to the front of the hotel.
check in was fast and friendly
We were given a double room on the first floor
the room was small and quite dated ,there is a small tv and tea making equipment that was renewed daily
the room wasnt clean to the standards we are use to worn carpet very old style bathroom suite
staining to the ceilling (see pics)
the cleaner came every day but would only run a cloth around the bathroom and empty the bin
but she was very friendly and helpful tho
as the title says investment is needed very badly in the corridors of the upstairs rooms the carpets are thread bare and held together with duct tape in other areas the carpets are ripped causing a trip hazzard,
the corridors are quite tight and could do with a lick of paint there is many fire doors and steps not easy with a push chair.
as many other on here have said the food is very good very plentiful and of good quality
just a shame the service was terrible the staff in the resturant were rushed off there feet
and we sat for long periods waiting for food and drinks to be served
the staff did apologise in the resturant but the service never improved.
the entertainment was good a night quite hard to get a seat as the starlight lounge did fill up fast but by 9.30 seats were available most nights
there is a huge indoor pool area thats heated and was excellent for the children with life gaurds on duty
there is also a large games area in the next door hotel with bowling childrens soft play area and many games
this hotel does need some improvment in the areas mentioned but it could be a very good hotel otherwise
