I have just spent Xmas at the Derwent travelling alone (although in a coach party). I had a fabulous time - great company, entertainment and as for the food - well i think i will have to be on rations for at least six months to make up for all my over indulgence. the only point i would make and this is not a complaint, is that on Christmas Day i think it was over the top to have the traditional Xmas meal at lunch time followed by a full 3 course meal again at 6.30. personally i think it would have been much better to have the cold buffett (which was served on Boxing Day) on Xmas Day and have the usual evening meal on Boxing Day - but of course there may be very good reasons for this behind the scenes.

I have stayed at the Derwent on and off for about 20 years and what i like about it more than anything else is the relaxed friendly atmosphere with no snobby attitudes that are found in so many hotels.

I have already booked my place for the trip next Xmas.

Well Done The Derwent

Just returned from our twixmas break at the Derwent Hotel. Good value weekend, excellent food and amenities. I would recommend this to anyone for an enjoyable relaxing break but, come on guys, Garry Dorsey cabaret star??? Easily the worst act I have ever seen (and I've seen a fair few), he managed to practically empty the room singlehandedly inside 20 minutes, we thought there had been a bomb scare judging by the rate at which people were leaving!! Still, we'll probably return next year for more of the same..........

I loved the swimming pool. The entertainment was good and managed to appeal to a wide range of ages. I thought our room was small and the shower was very feeble. We enjoyed the food and thought the choice very good. the staff were friendly and helpful. On the whole a very enjoyable stay.

Our stay at the TLH was a pleasurable experience. The Hotel, the food, the cleanliness, the friendly staff made the Turkey and Tinsel / Bowls weekend a real pre Christmas treat. The best part was the entertainment in the evenings which was superb. I came away with a real Christmas spirit. Will look forward to going back next year.

For a start the lifts was to small, the bed room was like a frige with cold air coming from the windows. there were cob webs and dust in the bedroom and behind the so called bathroom door, you could not swing a cat in there as my wife is a large person and myself as well. The dining room staff was to slow,as we waited an half an hour the one evening fron the starter to the main meal. The ballroom was a joke to as it was very cold at night sitting at the rear with draft coming from the windows as well.certain people was saving seats for other friends,so you could not get a proper seat, and the so called entertainment was very poor . So we are very disatisfied with the Hotel, and we shall not book another holiday with you,but the only good thing about the holiday was the coach driver Simon.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you did not enjoy any part of your break with us. Dunwoods have been travelling to our hotel for several years, and the hotel remains popular with their guests. I would always hope that any shortfalls in standards are raised with our Management team during the stay to allow us to make right any wrongs that may occur. The reserving of seating in our popular entertainment venue is prohibited prior to it being opened. We do allow guests who are in our ballroom to hold chairs for friends that are joining them. It is very rare that I read any comments that relate to room cleanliness as we spend a lot of time and effort making sure that our rooms are welcoming. We also audit our rooms weekly to ensure that they are being cleaned to a high standard, I apologies if this was not the case in your room. In relation to cold rooms, we had adjusted our heating to reflect the cold spell that we have been experiencing. We have not had any other feedback to suggest that this is not the case. I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Kindest regards.
