“'Babbacombe Bliss'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

We have just returned from an all too short 2 night stay at the amazing 'Cary Arms' in beautiful Babbacombe.
From the minute we descended the step little road down to the Bay we were swept away by the beauty of the place. The lush treelined cliffs lead down to the most exquisite little bay where sail boats gently bob on the tide.
From the small pier a few fishermen try their luck for mackerel at high tide, while at low tide the children scuttle along the rock pools hopeful for crabs.
The Cary Arms nestle's into the scene - a vision of pristine white and naval blue enhanced by a rainbow of pansies, fuschia, daisies and palm trees!
The staff simply couldn't have been more helpful or delightful and the wonderful housekeeper Linda was an absolute mine of unbeatable local information and her warmth and beaming smile were a real tonic.
We cannot thank the lovely Michelle and the wonderful Chef enough for the delicious Brixham Crab, which as a special request he went out of his way to supply!
We were sad to leave, but we have taken away some wonderful memories.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are spectacular.

We had lunch here. Spectacular views all around the bay and very secluded. A good menu served by interesting people. Good service and value.
The road down the hill is very steep and narrow with some sharp bends. Only brave drivers should attempt it. Be prepared for a steep walk up the hill after parking in the public car park.

I felt so excited to be finally going to The Cary Arms for my birthday Cream Tea. The rainy weather was not going to put me off as it was MY BIRTHDAY, yippee! Drove an hour to get there only to be treated to a small single FRUIT scone. It probably was about 2 inches across, if I squinted in a good light and it cost £6.00. Okay, I accept that I am paying for the ambience, the wonderful location etc but I would have preferred to pay more and not have that sinking feeling when it was placed in front of me. Also Devon Cream tea scones don't have fruit in but never mind, hopefully it tasted better than it looked. Urmm nope it did not, as I cut into it, it shattered as it was so stale. To make matters worse, it had been warmed up so that should have made it softer. I tasted one of the small fragments only for it to remind me of a Biscotti biscuit. To the discerning food critic they are purposely made to be dry and crunchy. It was inedible unlike a Biscotti biscuit. I was so disappointed as I had finally visited the Cary Arms and my Devon Cream Tea was not what I had hoped for. On a positive note the other food that was ordered was lovely. The staff were very attentive and very professional. A no quibble refund was given but have I mentioned it was my birthday! So I drove home, went to a supermarket and made my own and they were spanking!

Thank you for your feedback on your birthday cream tea. I am so sorry this was such a disappointment for you. Our scones are home made and usually delicious. We do serve just one scone, however our standard is to serve a large, approx 4 inch fresh fruity scone. Yes we do use sultanas as most people prefer a fruit scone.
I cannot imagine what went wrong on the day on this occasion.

Please do contact me personally to discuss this further and I would like the opportunity to rectify this for you.

Felicia and her team were Wonderful. Although most of the team were young, the enthusiam and professionalism was outstanding.Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. The food and service were outstanding and if there was something that you would like too eat, that wasn't on their menu they were happy to get it for you.The rooms were excellent and the views spectacular. We will definately be coming again, soon hopefully and we will be recommending The Cary Arms to friends and family.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a sea view, with a balcony or terrace. Rooms on the higher floor hear less noise a...

We visited mid week for a bite to eat.
The staff were really friendly and polite. We were shown to our table with stunning views out across the small bay and out to sea.
The menu had something for everyone and all reasonably priced and the quality of good really very good.

All in all a great experience.
To top it all the local seal was entertaining us all down by the jetty.

I look forward to visiting again soon.

In 2013 my wife and I stayed at the Cary Arms for 3 nights. We wish it could have been longer!!!!
Staff fantastic, accommodation excellent - clean comfortable and plenty of room with great views of the sea and coastline. A hidden Gem. We hope to go back!

Room Tip: All great rooms.

Nothing appeared to be too much trouble for the staff. The claim that they would try to meet any request for food was true. We asked for turbot, a fish very rarely available, even in top class establishments and it was available for us the next evening, cooked as we had requested. Oscar & Archie, the beagles were made most welcome. It is nice to find a hotel which is, as they claim, 'dog friendly'

We are not always easy to please, but no complaints here. Hope to make it an annual visit.
