“Relaxing, beautiful setting, excellent service and food”
Reviewed 1 September 2009

My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend at the Cary Arms to celebrate our 5 year anniversary, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having had very mixed experiences at UK hotels in the past (usually bad), and wondering if the cost of the room would really be worth it, we were sold by the website and the friendly response to queries over the phone, and decided to give the UK one last chance for a bank holiday weekend away. How glad we are that we did. .
After a long drive from London, we were welcomed warmly by the assistant manager Tony and offered complimentary drinks, help with our bags and a seat outside to relax whilst we got our bearings. We quickly realised that this great start was to be the norm - the whole weekend was wonderful from start to finish, from the gorgeous room (spotless, mix of traditional and modern, comfortable), lovely food (local, imaginative and simple, always well cooked), to the beautiful surroundings (maximised by the design of the internal and external layouts). Whether having lunch out on the sun terrace enjoying the fabulous views or dinner inside by the fire when the weather was cool, there wasn't a bad spot to be! And the 'extras' which were part of the service - drinks on the house, a boat trip round the bay, papers and dinner booked without needing to ask - it all helped to make us feel as welcome as if we were statying with friends or family, and not a paying guest!! Thank you to Jen and all the Cary Arms team for a lovely weekend, we are so glad we decided not to go abroad and explore south Devon instead. We will defintely be back, and will tell all of our friends and family about you, so keep up the good work!.

We stayed at The Cary Arms for a whole week and it was fantastic. Above all else, the customer service is extremely good, with very friendly staff and efficient service. There is a real sense of teamwork and pride amongst the people that work here. Our room was fantastic with windows looking out to the sea and a small terrace. This was one of the dog friendly rooms, and dog friendly is what we experienced at every turn. Our dog was pampered as much as we were, although he couldn't make use of the Spa room and the lovely massages and facials on offer there!! The food was very good (though the menu did not vary much during our stay, but I think this will change going forward). Yes, it is quite pricey, but if you want great service, a great location and atmosphere and want to treat yourselves, this is the place for you. We'll be going back, that's for sure.

A trip to the Cary Arms is out of this world on one of those rare English summer days when the weather really does feel like you're on the English Riviera the staff were worked off of their feet we saw hundreds of people arriving on foot, by road and on such a beautiful day even by boat.. Nothing seems too much trouble here even when the terrace is really busy in summer the staff go out oif their way to get you seated for one of those fantastic lunches you dont forget too quickly, just when you thought it couldnt get better came the new barbecue food out on the terrace absolutely delicious. Today from the menu though it was beautiful smoked salmon followed by Cod Loin cooked to perfection and some fish and chips to put the best to shame! once again the wife asked me why my cooking wasn't this good so I excused myself by saying its all down to the ingredients... which is of course true as the Cary definitely gets the best and serves them at a fair price too! no skimping on portions either. If its dessert your after try them all we have! We are here that often we are thinking of moving into one of the rooms... well at least taking a break in Autumn!
