We were on holiday in Torquay and decided we would have an Indian for a meal, we used the app to find the nearest Indian to our hotel. The restaurant itself is located in quite a quiet area although there are several large hotels and B&Bs up and down the road; however the restaurant was packed and had a great atmosphere. We were greeted by a waitress on arrival who seated us at our reserved table downstairs. There was a great choice on the menu, however some of the meals that you can have aren’t listed on there or there are variations that are listed but at different prices, so this can be quite misleading and confusing. All of the meals including the poppadoms were made perfectly.
One problem was that a Diet Coke we ordered tasted nothing like Diet Coke and in fact tasted like soda water but brown...
Overall, it was very expensive, however it was somewhat worth it in the end.

Ate in this restaurant a few years ago before current owners and was very disappointed at that time. Decided to give it another try this year and was glad we did. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Manager stopped at table and gave us a run-down of the ingredients used in the dishes we had. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was quite a few on duty so service was efficient. Went there 2 nights and on the second were seated upstairs - rather low ceiling so can get warm so would recommend a seat downstairs where ceilings are higher. Would also recommend booking if going on a weekend night - on a Saturday we were there people were being turned away as all tables were booked.

I went with my wife for a evening meal. We were greeted by a very friendly professional young member of staff. My wife and I ordered The Nana bread with cheese and Chicken Tikka for staters which was very nice. I ordered a Chicken Balti with Pilau rice, my wife ordered a Beef Dhansak with boiled rice. We also ordered a couple of Lassi's as well. As you would expect with an establishment of this kind we were served excellent well prosented and well seasoned food which was very tasty. The staff are excellent and friendly and are very helpful and will answer any questions about the menu. We had a lovely evening and will definitely come again when we are next in Torquay. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Thank you for your feedback.

It is fantastic that you had an enjoyable experience at the Bombay Express.

The restaurant is going through a huge transformation over the coming weeks. We have been working with intense focus on our brand new menu....Bombay Express Reloaded. This latest menu will take on a new approach to the Indian dining experience.

Not only are 80% of the dishes brand new original creations, they are all also plated and designed with precision. A brand new array of starters, mains, sides and desserts. All based around the new philosophy we are adopting....Elevated Cuisne.

We are not going to be a fine dining restaurant, nor do we term ourselves as casual dining. The Elevated elements have been created with healthy eating, historical spice knowledge and the British palette which is so tuned to herbs and spices.

Long gone are any artificial colours, and although some of the Anglo classics remain, you will be very impressed by the menu that boasts tasty, balanced and structured elements.

The Reloaded menu launches towards the last week of November. The entire restaurant has had a makeover including the kitchen, making for an entirely new experience.

Apologies if I haven’t answered your reviews, all my time is currently given towards the relaunch of Bombay Express Reloaded.

Home made chutneys and pickles, along with an extensive seafood offering locally sourced just adds to the heights of what we are set to deliver.

Leave your preconceptions at the door, this will not be curry or of a balti house genre, welcome to the future of Indian cuisne welcome to Bombay Express Reloaded. #GenuineMerit

Look forward to seeing you all soon.

Have a great year

Rehan

We came here on a previous visit 3 years ago and looked forward to returning unfortunately we were disappointed the food was uninspiring and little more than supermarket fare the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere, a real shame as last time we were there it was a different experience altogether
