“It's a jolly holiday with Daish's”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

We have just returned from our first holiday with Daish's and for the price we paid we paid we are more than satisfied. We had a good room and slept undisturbed, despite the hot weather. This is mostly because the hotel kindly supplied us with a fan. The breakfast was perfectly adequate and the evening meal had sufficient choice. Restaurant staff are exceptionally good and very hard working. Although we go out at night, the hotel has entertainment every evening. This was very well received and of good quality. Optional trips are very reasonably priced and the one we went on was very enjoyable. Well done for offering a six day break at a price people can afford. Our only complaint was that you have to queue the first afternoon to be allocated a table for meals. As newcomers this wasn't fully explained to us.

Room Tip: Room 47 was excellent.

Dear Valued Guests,

Your comments gives us much pride and helps keep you going when some will try to hurt you for your hard work, here readers you have a couples on the same tour as terrible experience reviewer, walking the same areas of the hotel, eating the same food, listening to the same entertainment, yet one couples terrible experience has to be questioned as unfair because a fair person will talk to your face like this Guest, straightforward, honest and indeed fair, so we are glad your experience was less terrible then past reviewer and happy you were happy because if you were not, you would ask, we would give, then we are both happy again..

miss you until next time

Regards to you both

Staff are friendly and helpful. Entertainment aimed at the older generation but there's a games room, computer and pool for youngsters.
On top of steep hill, but regular bus service. Food great, hotel clean.
Don't expect 5* but its great for the price. Town not far away and there's plenty of shops, a beach and harbour.
Nice for a little getaway

We visited the "Devonshire Hotel" in May this year, we have been there many times over the last couple of years, the staff are outstanding, Hotel nice and friendly, bus pulls up outside taking you down to the harbour. Daish's are by far the best company, with Hotels at Weymouth-Bournemouth- Shanklin (I-O-W),- Eastbourne and Torquay. Try a visit to these to get reasonable prices, good value.

Room Tip: We love the Annexe to the rear of Hotel.

Went to the Devonshire in May 2014,my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay,we have been to this hotel on several occassions. For the price it is very good value, clean, comfortable and the staff are very eager to please. The location may be a little difficult for people with walking problems but there is a frequent bus service to most of the attractions straight outside the hotel gates.Evenings are well organised with entertainment and bingo and a games room for the children. Will go again.

The situation of the Hotel was on top of a very steep hill, about 20 minutes walk from the town centre, however, the local bus did call in to the car park during the day. No bus service in the evening. The room was smart, clean and airy. The all important bathroom was clean and functional. The restaurant, which doubled as the entertainments room was comfortable. The evening entertainment ranged from exceptionally good on the first evening to OK on the final evening. We were told to gather in the restaurant at 4 p.m. to book our table for the week. However, although I was one of the first of the guests to appear, it soon became apparent that tables had already been allocated on a very abrupt "take it or leave it basis". We had to take it and sit in a very dark corner looking at a wall. The food was very "school dinners" standard. The waiter was very accommodating and efficient.

Room Tip: Swimming pool only one metre deep. Good to cool off from a long journey, but not to swim.

Dear Guest, thank you for taking the time to write your review, I am very keen to know what table you were sat at during your stay, maybe you could have swopped sides which would have increased your view, I am interested to know what school you went to, as you compare our meals as school dinners, I am in my 40s and went to a very nice free school, but the school dinner I had were not to the standard as this hotel. thank you for taking the time to write and we are happy despite your thoughts on the meals.

second visit to the Devonshire Hotel this year and as usual the room, and restaurant services were very good. The. Food was very nice and we'll served. My only complaint is the way visitors on arrival have to wait in line for a long time to be allocated a table for the restaurant. I would have thought this could be allocated at the time of being given the room key.

hi and thank you for your review, looking into your comments, we used to offer tables with Keys on arrival this is fine until someone decides they don't like their table and table jump which in turn can cause lots of problems with seating, Guests can however can be allocated their table from 4.00pm until 6.15pm so no need to line up.

thank you so must hope you will return very soon.

regards
