“great with kids but £30 to walk round a house?”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

I felt like I'd well and truly had my pants pulled down and slapped with a big hand. The dinosaur displays were at best poor and we were in and out in half an hour . the only reason it got more than 1 star is that the kids liked it. This price should have included at least a return visit.

Dear Reviewer, I am pleased to see that your kids liked the exhibition so I am surprised and disappointed with your negative comments. I cannot understand or accept your comment about ‘a house’ nor accept that the dinosaur displays are poor. We are situated in a town centre commercial property approximately 3200 sq feet in size, and in the last 4 ½ years since we opened we have been consistently praised for the quality of exhibition. The vast majority of visitors spend between 1-2 hours touring the exhibition looking at 40 different high grade made-to-order models such as the 10 foot African Pterosaur, an 8 foot long 5 foot high Deinonychus, a 15 foot Triceratops, a 12 foot Dimetrodon, full size fossilised skulls of a T-Rex and Triceratops, and a dozen specially handmade scale models of varying size (1-3 feet). Each scene is accompanied by detailed information so that visitors can learn about each dinosaur. However, some visitors do speed around the exhibition and fail to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about dinosaurs, and interact with the various different exhibits like the fossil excavation sites and dinosaurs to touch and sit on.

If you were so disappointed I do not understand why you would not raise the point during your visit as I would have been more than happy to give you a refund. We have a very friendly and open customer service style and talk to all our visitors at the end of their tour so we can award the children a Dinosaur Expert Certificate. This would have been a perfect time to express any concerns, but very occasionally some visitors choose to ignore this interaction and leave without accepting the certificate. Also, the entry ticket allows free re-entry for the day and all visitors can get a Paleo Pass, which means that they can return for only £1/person as many times as they like for the 3 month life of the Pass. Once again I’m glad that your children enjoyed themselves, regards Toby T Rex.

“Overpriced”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

Overall it was ok but I think it is overpriced for what it is - £5.95 per person - flat rate! We really enjoyed fossil excavation, but that's about it. Everything else was a bit boring.

Hello and thank you for your feedback, but it’s disappointing to hear you thought your visit was overpriced. The entrance fee allows visitors the opportunity to spend as long they wish interacting with all the different aspects of the exhibition, to re-tour at their own pace after completing the quiz, and to re-enter later on the same day if young explorers get tired and need a break.

With over 40 different dinosaurs to discover, lots of detailed information to read, and many interactive exhibits like the sandpit, craft room, dinosaurs to sit on as well as the fossil excavation sites, the vast majority of our visitors take part in these activities, enjoy their visit and feel the visit was value for money. At £5.95 we are one of the cheapest attractions in the bay and we feel that this price is reasonable and reflective of the costs of setting up and running a tourist attraction in the present economic climate. All the best Toby T-Rex.

“KIDS FUN !”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

Staff friendly , and helpful ... smallish venu , my second visit , first time when it opened 4 years ago ... since has enlarged , with extra rooms. My 9 year old grandson enjoyed the questionnaire and completed it 100% and got his "certificate".

Models were realistic, and kids were allowed to climb over them , which they loved .

I think it was a little bit expensive , perhaps "grandmas and grandpas" could be a little bit cheaper , and under fives , ( and PLEASE PROVIDE A FEW BENCHES for us) I had to do some "colouring in !" to sit down for a few minutes.!!!

Dear Reviewer, many thanks for letting us know that your grandchildren really enjoyed their visit, and well done to them for completing our fun explorer quiz and winning their Dinosaur Expert certificate. Regarding the price we do not charge extra for adults: instead we choose to keep things simple and charge everyone (except toddlers) the child and pensioner price of £5.95/person, instead of charging extra for adults like most establishments. We find that the vast majority of our adult visitors would prefer to pay less for their visit. If you live locally we can also give you a Paleo Pass, which means that you can re-enter the exhibition for only £1/person for the life of the Pass.

As for ‘benches’ we would like to have a seating area for those who need a rest but we think it best on the whole to use all the space possible for dinosaur scenes and interactive exhibits for the benefit of the majority rather than seating for the few who many want them. We constantly update and change the exhibition so that there is something new for our many repeat and first time visitors to see and do, and since we opened we have added more fossil excavation sites, a sand pit and craft room, along with a more dinosaurs to sit on. Once again we are pleased to hear that you and your family enjoyed the visit, and we look forward to seeing you again. Regards Toby T Rex

“Good for boys”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

How much you enjoy this attraction is going to be largely dependant on the your party. We have a five year old daughter, who enjoyed the visit in a mildly interested way, and a four year-old son who's recently become fixated by dinosaurs, and was excited almost to the point of hysteria when we arrived. Both kids enjoyed it.
It is what you would imagine; large plastic model dinosaurs and fake plants, with jungle sounds and some pictures. If you took the time to read all the information on offer, this is would kill a couple of hours. We spent around forty-five minutes inside, and I did learn some new facts. It's not going to rival the Natural History Museum, but it is a very good way to entertain kids on a rainy Tuesday morning in Torquay.

Dear reviewer, thank you for your comments and great to know that both of your children enjoyed the visit, especially your young son. Our visitors are a very diverse group from young toddlers up to pensioners, but our most popular demographic are primary school age boys and girls. These explorers often spend up to two hours looking at and reading about the dinosaurs (which are high quality, realistic and set in naturalistic scenes), and who always really enjoy looking for fossils in the excavation sites, searching for the answers to the quiz, colouring or drawing dinosaurs in our craft room and of course sitting on dinosaurs or putting their heads in dinosaur mouths. Personally I really like the Natural History Museum, and whilst we are a little smaller in scale we do have many visitors who tell us they prefer our exhibition because of the many interactive exhibits that we have. Thanks again and regards Toby T Rex.
