Owner description: Since its foundation in 1196, Torre Abbey has witnessed, survived and even played a role in some epic moments of history. It is one of the best buildings in the country to tell the story of 800 years of Catholicism between 1196 and 1930. This museum uses a clever mix of authentic artefacts with hi-tech interpretation. From talking portraits and statues to interactive displays and one of the largest fine art collections in the South West, there really is something for everyone. Follow the garden trails or pick up a family guide or Experts' Choice to discover many hidden mysteries. With a wealth of exotic plants, the gardens are a tranquil haven of beauty and pleasure and the perfect setting in which to relax, stroll or picnic. Children can explore the garden and bring the Abbey to life using our special discovery backpacks. Browse our shop stocked with a range of souvenirs, gifts and books or sit down and enjoy a selection of drinks, snacks and light meals in the tearooms. The house, Spanish Barn and Palm House are licensed for civil weddings, partnership ceremonies and christenings. Torre Abbey can also cater for functions, corporate hospitality or training events. A varied programme of events takes place at Torre Abbey throughout the year including the International Agatha Christie Festival, open-air theatre and cinema, a music and arts festival and family events. Tours of the house are available out of hours to groups of 30 or more. Following the recent restoration project, the Abbey now boasts a new educational suite which provides opportunities for students of all ages to get involved and explore the Abbey's history.

“Enjoyable day out at Torre Abbey”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

The sun was shinning and a visit to Torre Abbey was on the cards. A throughly enjoyable experience and only wished I had longer to explore the vast amount of history and painting that was on display. The gardens were in flower, so I spent time walking around the grounds looking in all the nooks and crannies - taking in the peace and tranquil setting, before setting back into Torquey. The staff were very helpful, especially if you had missed an area in the Abbey and they would guide you in the right direction. Thank you for a lovely day and time to reflect.

“Torre Abbey Visited”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Following the refurbishment, we visited the Abbey, its museum, gardens and ruins and were most impressed. The history section on the top floor was first class and took sometime to look at everything and enjoy the interactive features.
Would recommend this as a place to visit when in Torquay.

“Twice in two days”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Newly refurbished to a very high standard and clearly at great expense this has something for everyone.
The Abbey is of interest as a building and contains many intriquing and beautiful objects, well described.
Old and young should be able to spend a long time here.
The gardens were beautiful and educational - don't miss the poisonous plants featured by Agatha Christiie. The Palm House was magnificent.
Staff helpful, Cafe good with sea views.
A Must See.

Well worth a visit, the Abbey contains many paintings for the art lovers & the ancient stained glass windows are lovely, the gardens are immaculate with plenty of seating, did not visit the cafe though it looked very pleasant.

“interesting and informative”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

what a great day out - newly opened with lots to see and do - exhibits were well presented and loads of interactive items - there seemed to be room after room - pity the weather was too bad to enjoy the gardens - well worth a visit any time of the year
