I love staying at the Imperial Hotel. It is like stepping back in time and although some updating needs to take place I wouldn't let that put me off staying here again. Breakfast is great, especially the view!

We usually stay here at least a couple of times a year, but this was our first this year.
When we arrived there was only 1 person manning reception, the wait was long as was the queue!
When getting our room (delux double, it was a twin made into a double with an uncomfortable middle, the room stank of stale cigarettes. stains everywhere- carpet, headboard, bed linen, the general upkeep was very disappointing.
On the first night there were functions on, and this left guests without any entertainment, space to relax.
The evening meal, which was part of a deal that we had booked was good, the food was tasty, although portions were so small even after dessert you didn't feel full!
Breakfast was ok and plentful on Sunday but Monday morning, dried up and not replenished, we came down at 9.15!
If you are looking for somewhere special to stay as we were, it was our 20th wedding anniversary you will be very disappointed. Go somewhere else.

This is our second stay at the Imperial this year and we have not been disappointed on either occasion. The hotel is situated up a slight hill a very short walk from Torquay harbour, which allows you the benefits of all the hustle and bustle of the harbour and central area, but without any of the noise when you return to the hotel.
On arrival at the hotel you are greeted with a large and impressive lobby area. Both of the rooms we have stayed in have been spotlessly clean large and spacious, with spectacular views over Torbay. On our recent stay we were informed the hotel was full, although due to the size and space within the hotel, it did not give this impression. The hotel has recently undergone some refurbishment and this is especially evident in the superior quality of the bathroom fixtures and fittings. All the staff we encountered were extremely pleasant and very friendly. The breakfast, which is huge and caters for every taste, is served in the restaurant which has great views over Torbay and gives the impression of being onboard a ship.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view, you will not regret it

It's a lovely hotel, very elegant, clean and tidy and the staff were all great - very friendly.
All the rooms that I saw seem to be a good size, unlike the more modern hotels where the rooms are tiny.

It feels a little old fashioned and 'tired' - almost like its not quite loved anymore, as the little things are not being looked after.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view as it really is quite a spectacular view

Wow what a bonus, phoned at 11am and booked a double room with dinner for £84, arrived at 4pm to check in.

Boom, given a premier double suite with balcony and sea views.

Now yes impressed with the upgrade but had to try all the facilities

Spa - clean tidy and well equipped
Pool - magic, clean warm
Sauna - hot clean a little small
Room - very clean up to date with fantastic views of Torquay - shower hot water and strong
Restaurant - first class service - food cooked to perfection - outlook over the bay second to none
Staff - Every single one on point without exception

This used to be the only five star hotel outside London, it may now only carry three stars but trust me it's still a five star service.

Booking to go back next year for a weekend with My wife next time.

Room Tip: 121 is the room I had and I cannot recommend it highly enough, if you can off reach the tariff then...

The hotel is elegant and beautiful. The service was very good . Our room was very clean and the views outstanding.(Garden floor) We had dinner in the Regatta restaurant, the meal was excellent and the views stunning. Breakfast was superb with a huge selection. Would definately recommend.
Only drawback is you have to pay for parking.

Room Tip: For a fantasic view ask for the garden floor

Booked over the Internet on one of the Puma deals. Booked a 3 course meal with wine, bed and breakfast and had a fabulous time. We paid £90 and was given an amazing room with a Beautiful view overlooking the bay.
