“Very good Hotel for Families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2014

I recently stayed at the hotel for three nights with my elderly mother. I asked for rooms not too far from a lift and with bright, sunny balconies. The rooms were perfect, very clean, a good sized single bed, next door to each other and the balcony captured the afternoon sun. Staff are all very friendly and helpful and are used to dealing with elderly visitors, they are very patient indeed. Good varied menu with a light and airy dining room. You have to book a time for dinner each evening and although you may request a window table, in order to appreciate the stunning view of Torbay, it isn't always possible. However due to the huge expanse of glass in the restaurant, there are always good views. The hotel is situated half way up a hill with parking on site, £7 for outside, £15 underground per day. Plenty of interesting places to visit in the vicinity. I would certainly go back.

Room Tip: Pick a room on the first floor or above to ensure you get plenty of afternoon sunshine on the balcon...

First stay here & stayed for 3 nights in a single bedroom.. Hallway, Room was superb, spotless, nice decor, large single bed, large flat screen TV, tea & coffee, plenty of drawers, large wardrobe.. Ensuite with bath & stand in bath shower, plenty of towels & complimentry toiletries.. Bright opening windows to balcony with a sun lounger & spectacular views over the bay of Torbay. Staff: faultless!!! Very friendly & helpful.. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice & smoked salmon for brekkie was lush plus a help yourself full English & served in the restaurant area again with views of the sea.. The rest of the hotel, spotless & beautifully decorated was like going back in time.. Has to be seen to be believed.. Bar was nice, I wouldn't say the drinks were that overpriced but hotels are always more expensive so to be expected plus a nice bar menu.. Try it, the is excellent. Didn't eat in the restaurant but will try that next time.. Plenty of facilities, gym, swimming pool, spa, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room.. Changing rooms could do with a bit of a facelift but then you're only in there for 10 minutes so didn't worry me.. Snooker table, pool tables, air hockey, table tennis, childrens play room... Outside, lovely gardens which are well maintained, childrens playground, outside swimming pool (season dependent), mini golf.. Plenty of balconys & seating areas to eat or drink. Plenty of parking but is charged at £7 a day which I imagine is because they are close to town, didn't worry me.. As I said this is my first say as I usually stay at the Palace.. The Imperial runs rings around the Palace & I really can't wait to go back.. I'm trying to find a niggle & the only one I can find is not enough coffee in the bedroom!! LOL Hey can't be perfect ;-) Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay & see you soon!!

Stayed at the Imperial for 1 night to attend a weeding reception in Torquay on 12th April, with family, taking 2 rooms. On arrival at the hotel there was nowhere to park as I was told there were many day visitors using the car park. The hotel staff however did allow us to use the garage parking which is normally extra cost.
We were allocated room 131 which appeared to be perfectly adequate. We returned to the room at around midnight and all was well until 5am when an extractor fan outside our window started up and from then on there was no chance of sleeping at all.
My son and his wife were in 104 and had no problems with noise at all.
I'd like to add that in no way should anyone be worried about staying at this hotel as the Imperial is superb. The staff and the food are excellent but if you are staying here you need to avoid 131 and the adjacent rooms on that side of the hotel.
We actually held our youngest sons wedding here in August 2012 and wrote a superb review at that time.

Room Tip: Avoid 131 and the adjacent rooms due to extractor fan noise early am.

This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel and returned with extended family for a birthday celebration. The interior of this hotel is fantastic and takes you back to another time. The views are stunning and must be hard to beat by any other hotel in the area.
The bedrooms are spacious again with stunning sea views. They are clean and comfortable. The bunk bed in the family room we stayed in could and should be replaced as it is very wobbly. My children as they are young teenagers found them a little uncomfortable. This also applies to the bathroom, again although being clean should be replaced. The bath was badly cracked and the panelling was broken, there was black mould on some areas of the grout.
The service in the restaurant as well as the food is excellent, the staff on the Friday evening and Saturday for breakfast were very welcoming and could not have been more attentive. The service and welcome we received on the Sunday morning could have been better but there were different members of staff from the previous two days.
We loved using the leisure facilities as the weather was not great.
There was a 16th birthday party and we were disturbed by giggling screaming girls running around the corridors, I asked them to stop which they did.
At checkout we were not asked how our stay was as they were very busy!!
Overall I would stay again and would recommend this hotel. The management just need to address a few minor issues

Fantastic place to stay. Very attentive (but not overbearing) staff who were very helpful, both in the hotel & the health club. Both my husband & I have walking difficulties & were given a very accessible room with lovely views over the bay. Food was excellent - we went on a Secret Escapes deal - so we sampled breakfast, afternoon tea & a three course meal with wine. We enjoyed it so much we even booked an extra night! A great place to stay to enjoy Torbay.
