Sent 2 e-mails of which I had no response. Nice hotel although decoration very tired looking. Overcharged on exit at hotel had to prove my payment from bank before I got my money back. Overall impression was a little disappointed.

The moment we arrived we were made very welcome by the receptionist. All of the staff we encountered were very polite and helpful. The three course dinner that we had on the evening in the restuarant was excellent, along with the fantastic view that went with it, and breakfast the following morning was a real treat too. The weekend stay was combined with a Secret Escapes offer, which overall made it an outstanding value for money weekend!

A little dated but overall a nice hotel I would probably not choose to stay here but I would probably also not choose to go to Torquay.

The rooms are a little dated, but on the sea side give great views. The staff were very good and the food provided was really nice.

Although not that attractive from the outside the hotel is lovely inside and has a great atmosphere. I was there for a friend's wedding, the event and the hospitality of the staff could not be falted. The rooms have lovely balconies with sea views and although some of the furnishings are a little tired the rooms are very clean, spacious and well maintained. The food was of a very good quality both for breakfast and dinner.

The spa treatments however were very disappointing and far from the 'deluxe' experience advertised, The therapists were young and seemed inexperienced. The quality of nail treatments and products was poor which was particulalrly disappointing as we were all having treatments to prepare for a wedding at the same venue and felt very let down.

We will definitely return to this hotel but will not be booking any beauty treatments next time.

Agreed an offer to come to this historic hotel for bed, breakfast and evening meal and we were not disappointed. The room was large and comfortable with a balcony and sea view which was fantastic. The bar and lounge were designed like something out of Agatha Christie, which makes sense considering the links to the area. Staff were very good and the food good quality and drinks reasonable priced especially the special offers. There is a small but well equipped gym and spa that we did not use. You have to pay for car parking. The hotel is up a hill about a 10 minute walk from the town.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the sea, great views and sun trap balcony.

Having stayed at The St. Georges Hotel Llandudno (4*) 2 weeks ago obviously comparisions will be drawn. I do not like to be a difficult guest, having said that The Imperial is very good at some things and needs a lot more attention to detail in others.
Greeted on arrival by Russell, wonderful greeting and one of the most accomplished members of staff 10/10. So having driven from Northamptonshire decided to have an afternoon cup of tea. Had to search out a staff member hiding behind the bar area, tea for 2 and 4 nice afternoon cakes please, the response, 'no you have to have the full tea, sandwiches, cakes and scones and cream £25. I do not want that, only tea and cakes. Cannot be done only a full tea. So just 2 cups of tea please, brought to us, 2 lumps of sugar in the saucer, no sugar bowl and a chocolate biscuit in the saucer so when the tea went in melted chocolate on the cup !
Very 'Fred's Cafe'
Breakfast, paper napkins ! Could we have tomato juice please, after 10 minutes, no there is isn't any in the hotel !
I mentioned this to Russell after breakfast and he arranged the next morning for there to be tomato juice, great !
That afternoon when returning to our suite Helena (wonderful member of staff) knocked on the door with 4 excellent afternoon cakes and said that if she had been on duty there was an afternoon tea menu available so have these with the compliments of the hotel.
Next morning at breakfast, wonderful, tomato juice, as arranged by Russell, waiting for us, 5 little bottles, had 2 each the the remaining one went off to the kitchen.
The next morning, only one tomato juice, no more in the hotel ! So had orange juice out of a dispenser thing.
Saw Helena during the day and told her about the tomato juice, she said 'What's the matter with them, I have an un-opened 24 bottle pack at the back of the bar, I will take along 8 bottles that will be there for your last 2 days' And it was !
The suite, 429, very nice but attention to detail very poor, one corner armchair squashed up against the curtains, settee cushion wrong way round with zip showing to the front, furniture in room not placed with any feeling, so moved the chairs and settee and balanced the room nicely. Table lamp shade was at a peculiar angle so straightened it, difficult at the wire support was broken, but managed to prop it up and move it from the wall where it was squashed
against.
I'm a Blue Badge holder but parking still cost £7 a day, not at the St. Georges, read my review of that hotel !
Two other members of staff went out of their way to be very helpful, Rob and Mark, both waiters in the restaurant, excellent members of staff.
Had dinner in the restaurant for only one evening, not remarkable, my smoked salmon and crab starter, the smoked salmon, a little larger than a match box top !
we dined at The Orange Tree, excellent, No.7 excellent, Cary Arms, excellent, the Imperial, just acceptable I'm afraid.
Training of staff needs to be addressed, housekeeping to develop an eye for detail.
Many thanks to Russell, Helena, Rob, Mark and some others whose names I did not get for making the stay acceptable.

Room Tip: 4th floor, room 429, very nice

We have been twice to dine at the Imperial , once last month and again earlier this month.

In brief we could not fault the food or service on both occasions , really enjoyed both evenings .

Excellent.
