The views from the dining and bar areas are stunning - we could have been staying at a hotel on one of the Italian lakes. Our stay, sadly, was short but there was plenty to entertain us in and around Torquay and the ferry terminal is less than a 10 minute walk away.
The food was much better than we expected from such a large hotel.Choice and presentation were impressive.
All the staff seemed hard working and eager to please if somewhat confused and overworked at times. This is a very large hotel, striving to keep a very diverse crowd of guests happy and doing a pretty good job all things considered.

Room Tip: If you're staying at the weekend, avoid booking a room under the bar area because the disco run...

I wondered if it was the same hotel that we visited after reading some of the reviews about the imperial and its unhelpful staff, after spending 2 weeks there we witnessed nothing but polite & helpful staff from the cleaners to the front of house staff, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is beautiful with great views (please request sea view it realy is worth the extra) the facilities are excellent although we didnt do the beauty treatments. The food was good the waitresses were excellent, polite and all worked very hard. I realy cannot fault anything about this hotel other reviews are right in saying it could do with a bit of a face lift but that said its very clean and well run, rooms are cleaned with bed linin & towels changed every day. The only thing that I could complain about is the rudeness of some of the guests staying there.

Stayed at the Imperial for one week. This hotel was recommended to us by friends who went last year. One of the main reasons was they take dogs, and they are made very welcome. The views are stunning and we had a garden room which had patio doors leading onto a patio with your own sun beds, and sea view.the outside space is very good overlooking the pool and again with stunning views,we ate out there at lunchtimes. When we arrived on the Saturday they had 2 weddings on and one wedding on Sunday. The staff were extremely busy, obviously not enough staff on,but after the weekend it did get a lot better. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed for a week in July this year, we had a room on the 4th floor (421) which was very spacious (if a little tired) Perfect views from balcony and the bed was very comfortable.
We had breakfast and evening meal, and overall the food was excellent. The service in particular was very good.
Pool and sun terrace were extremely enjoyable although it appeared to be getting very busy as we left. Kids club was thoroughly enjoyed by our youngest daughter.
Downside; the cost of childrens meals are not included when you book and this is added at the end. so you may find yourself paying an extra £50 or so when booking out. When we stayed there the air conditioning had failed and there was no sign of repair work being undertaken and i don't think the rooms have air con anyway. The furniture in our room was 'tired' to say the least
would we stay again? probably

Room Tip: Book a room overlooking the bay. Views are stunning.

Rooms old fashioned although lovely view from balcony. Breakfast was fab. The hill to get to this hotel is very steep so be aware. We couldn't get a wifi connection in our room so had to use to the area to obtain this. The drain on the balcony was blocked so the whole balcony flooded when it rained. You have to pay £7 a night for parking before on previous stays it was free. I don't think we will be visiting again.

We have just returned from a four night break and were very satisfied with our holiday at the Imperial. A deluxe sea view room is a must, yes the decor is a bit old fashioned but the the rooms are spacious, have fantastic views with balconies and sunbeds.Bathrooms are modern and stylish. Dinner in the Regatta was superb, cuisine was first class and at £22.00 for three courses was excellent value. The location of the hotel is ideal, a five minute walk to the harbour where there are several smart pavement cafe's and bars,
There is however room for improvement with staff training. Bar staff are particularly inexperienced for a four star hotel of such heritage.

Room Tip: sea views are a must

We visited the hotel for our silver anniversary and our stay there was perfect. The hotel is absolutely stunning, the room was fantastic with an amazing view of the entire bay area. During our stay all of the staff were very friendly and approachable, they always maintained a highly professional and efficient manner and were always willing to help. The food available at the restaurant and the lounge bar is first class and delicious. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well kept and provide another relaxing element to the overall atmosphere. The hotel is situated within a short walk to the main Marina and seafront area which has an abundance of facilities/amenities. This hotel is perfect for different types of trips but for our purposes it was perfectly romantic.
