This was our second weekend break at The Grand this year.
All was fine, except for the central heating in our seaview room not working, but we were supplied with a portable radiator.
We found all staff helpful and courteous.
A pity there were not more people eating in the Restaurant on the Sunday evening.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. It is well worth the supplement.

The Christmas decorations are just wonderful,so worth a visit just to see them, but add in afternoon tea, what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon, the choice was fabulous .....the staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble.....and of course you have the bonus of a magnificent view across Torbay.....can't wait to go again

My husband and I travelled down from Dorset for a wedding on Friday 7th we were very impressed by the standard of this hotel,Having been in the business for half a century, and stayed at most of the best hotels this was a refreshing surprise and the staff very well trained.
The price reasonable we only managed to get a standard double it was very clean, the bed was as good as home, and the meal in the evening was a tad expensive but worth every penny. The car parking was hit and miss affair depending on what time your arrived. But for us the icing on the cake was we were able to bring our two little dogs who were presented with a personal doggy bag how civilized is that? I would certainly recommend this hotel. June Howell

Amazing festive decor, under the surface a tired hotel, no attention to minor details. Example:- water does not drain away from the sink, UHT milk jiggers.......sour! blown light bulbs needed replacing in several areas of the hotel, single glazed windows, room fridge very noisey needed to unplug at 2.30am, very tired old matress many other trivial things not worth mentioning. Evening meal had quality ingredients although poorly cooked and presented, with very meagre portions, ( we went elsewhere to eat after the meal just to fill up). English breakfast was a selection of overcooked or undercooked items. Had we paid full price for the overnight stay I would be demanding a refund. Purpose of the weekend was to trial it, as we were considering buying 4 weekends away as presents for our 4 adult sons and daughters. Would not stay here again in or out of season, no excuse for ignoring attention to detail in competitive hospitality. Staff were absolutley the best a hotel chain could get, (excluding Chefs) A very big D minus for the stay.

My partner and I stayed overnight to attend a Christmas Party, on arrival the reception staff were extremely welcoming and efficient. Our room was faultless, clean, warm all amenities available and more if needed, décor was very pleasing and we both slept extremely well. The bar staff were fast and professional as were the waiting staff at the reception we attended. The evening meal was to a 4 star standard, breakfast was hot well cooked and well presented with a wide choice. All staff were friendly all with smiles, smartly dressed and professional at all times. A hotel that I would recommend to anybody without fear of letting them down. William Carnell room 129.

Room Tip: All rooms are to the highest standard.

My husband and i had a lovely over-night stay at this hotel ! we usually stay at another 4* hotel in Torbay but thought we would stay in the Grand for a change !! we wer'e so glad we did ! first impressions were good ! they have allocated parking bay's to the right of the hotel and a few within the station car park marked out in "Red" you need to get a "permit" from reception to use these and you can park for free !!
The "lobby" was very nice and reception staff were extremely polite in dealing with the "checking in" process ! our room was on the third floor and when we opened the door we were pleasantly surprised ! the room was big ! tastefully decorated ! a lovely bathroom with toiletries ! a good hot power shower and lovely warm fluffy white towels (always nice) the hostess tray was nicely laid out with a variety of teas and coffee-hot chocolate and biscuits !
A bottle of water was on the desk as was the hairdryer along with the "information" books ! a nice seating area where we sat and had a cuppa while watching the television for a short time !!
the bed was clean and comfortable and nicely "dressed"
A lovely touch was the illuminated round glass mirror on the desk ! it had little light bulbs all round it giving off a nice light to do your hair ! or put on your make-up !!
As for breakfast ! absolutely gorgeous ! tea/coffee/toast brought to the table and if you wanted a cooked breakfast this was ordered at your table and cooked fresh ! so much nicer than having hot food laid out as a buffet for goodness knows how long ! my husband could tell the difference straight away and really enjoyed his meal !! fresh fruit-youghurt-cereals-pastries etc were nicely laid out on a side table so you could help yourself along with jams-marmalade etc,!!
There is also a pool/sauna and jacuzzi which my husband enjoyed ! all in all ! for £59 B&B this was an excellent over-night stay and we will definately be staying here again in the near future !! Well done "The Grand Hotel " Torbay

First the good.
We were attending a Ball at The Grand and when we were en route, our friends contacted us to say they had to upgrade their room, as the one allocated was very small; after paying a small supplement, we ended up with a family room on the 1st floor, which although was a bit tired, had beautiful views of the bay.
We attended the Ball that evening and considering the amount of people attending, the food and service was excellent. Breakfast the following morning was as good as you would expect, buffet style, although for a small supplement you could have something special cooked.
Now the bad.
As we were staying for a second night, we decided to have supper at the bar that evening with a friend and decide to eat about 6.00pm, as this was a quiet time, with very few people in the bar.
We chose some wine, starters and main courses and the fiasco was about to take place, a room full of waiters, 2 of which were serving us, was asked on numerous occasions to confirm our drink and food order, after about 40 minutes we were still waiting for our starters, had the chef died we asked!! Our waiter, who could have taken the part of Dickens, Uriah Heep eventually informed us that the ticket machine to order the food had broken down and our food had not been ordered.
We eventually got our food and after being grumpy, had a good laugh, but although he is no longer with us, we still expected Jeremy Beadle to jump out and take the mickey.
Even mentioning to the waiter, with a name of Richardson in a Richardson hotel, you thought he might of panicked, but that even seemed to go straight over his head.
My longest review ever..............

Room Tip: Upgrade to a larger room with a view
