“Saved by the Grand”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

We had booked a two night stay at the Imperial Hotel, but due to the condition and position of the room we decided to look elsewhere.
So glad The Grand had a room available, the staff could not have been friendlier and welcoming unlike The Imperial.
Stayed in a Turret room, very clean and comfortable.
Bar food prices were reasonable compared with similar style hotels.
Would recommend The Grand.

Room Tip: Sea views roms can be noisey due to the busy road.

Stayed at the Grand for a second visit due to business. Much better experience from the first. Reception staff were very helpful and ensured same room could be used across 2 seperate bookings. Had a standard double room which was clean light and airy. Plenty of room for 2. Bathroom fine slightly dated decor but shower great and again clean. Pool hot tub and dry sauna welcome after a long day.
Previously weve eaten in the restaurant. Food great but service didn't match. This time we eat in the bistro. Wonderful food and much better service. Would recommend to any visitor. View gorgeoys too. Breakfast was lovely nice mixture of cold and hot though my partner missed black pudding!

The Grand is one of my favourite hotels in Torquay, with stunning views and a lovely place for lunch or coffee - usually! After a break of a few months I returned to find a new much more limited and far more pricey menu. I decided to have a smoked salmon sandwich, fairly pricey at £8 but I felt confident it would be worth it. My sandwich, and my companion's arrived in dry, cheap bread with a small pot of what looked like walkers crisps and a very small heap of rocket leaves. They had forgotten to include the cream cheese in my sandwich altogether. To give the waitress her due, I complained and she reduced our bill but I'm afraid I will be giving the Grand a miss for while until they sort themselves out.

As someone that's travelled extensively around the world, via my temp. secretary I found myself travelling on what was unquestionably the worst journey of my life from Victoria coach station overnight to Torquay. For anyone that's thinking about doing that journey, DON'T. Glossing over the torture of that awful coach, 5am on a wet and windy night is not the best time to be walking the streets of Torquay looking for a hotel. The cheap alternatives, Premier Inn and the like had rooms but wanted to charge me for two nights. I eventually found myself at the Grand Hotel. They not only let me into their lounge, but gave me free coffee as a prelude to the reception opening at 6am.The predominantly Eastern European staff were fantastic. The hotel has a real personality, the fit-out has a genuine age and sense of history in the public areas, but not at all stuffy. I can't think of a nicer place to stay.
P.S For anyone travelling by train, the station is a few yards away.

Yes we have review this hotel before and we are now about to defend this Grand old lady that's the Grand Hotel she's been hear for along time and keeping up with her must be a bit like looking after your gran its an old style British hotel

The hotel was beautiful and clean throughout. The rooms were spacious and had everything you needed.

The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and the food was just amazing. Of course the staff were just so professional and friendly and made you feel so welcome and relaxed.

Breakfast was amazing with so much choice scrambled eggs were lovely, and the sausages and bacon were of very good quality and much better the a buffet style breakfast

Bar snacks at the Grand are exceptional delightful sandwiches a lovely afternoon tea. nothing but nothing is too much trouble,

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Torquay for a few days or longer and want to be made to feel as though you are the only person that matters, eat excellent food, drink from a very good range of wines, sleep in a comfortable bed then The Grand Hotel is the place to go,

Always remember that the Grand is a British Seaside Hotel & every pound spent at the Grand goes back into jobs in Britain

Overall our entire stay was fantastic now planning our next break to the grand

Room Tip: Have a room with sea view well worth the extra

Hotel staff were very helpful and polite, room was nice although did get very hot. The breakfast was good and well presented. The hotel is in a lovely location and our stay was very enjoyable. I would certainly stay at The Grand again.
