“Welcome to the 1940's”
Reviewed 2 August 2012

I have to say that this Hotel is outdated. I know people rave about it but is not all that. The staff so not care and just look like they cant wait to leave. The food. Well the food is some thing i just dont get. We had a young girl called Jasmine serve us and though she was very nice and helpful. The food is out dated. £25 for a steak and that rump. No chance. There not much choice on the dinner menu and if you dont liike it. Well you dont have a choice. Most places these day's, The food is plated but here. It come out in little trays and they siver serve the food. (Thanks for the water like gravy on my jeans). It was cold and bland. No taste. The manager ask if we where ok and said the veg was cold and he said they had a new chef just started. Funny that as some one else had put that to in there review. The food went back and we got new food btu again the same problem. In the end we went to town. There are many places 100% better than this hotel in food wise. The room is outdated and the curtins smell bad. The bed where two single put together and the sheets and the room where not clean. We had to get some one to come and clean it while we watch as there where no other rooms to hand so they said but very unhelpful. We never stay at this hotel again and If ever back in torquay for a break with the family. We find some where else. Enjoy if you if you love the 1940's but if not. Find some where else.

Room Tip: None but if you do. Ask for a room away form the main road or you never get sleep

I stayed at The Palace Hotel for a week and I do not think I could fault one minute of my stay there. There are those that say this hotel is only recommended for the older generation, but I am 21 and loved it!
It is a grand building with interior decor that suits its period beautifully. There are many lounges in which you can relax and take in the splendour of the hotel or if it is nice weather you can enjoy the sun terrace with views over the breath-taking gardens. Wherever I was I felt relaxed and at ease, as did my father. The staff go above and beyond to offer brilliant service and I felt that nothing was too much trouble for them.
We had two double rooms which were lovely, clean and bright with nice views over the gardens. I would recommend this "garden-view" upgrade as the view is definitely worth it!
The breakfast at the hotel was of excellent quality with a large selection of food to choose from. In the evening the menu was varied and the food was incredible. There was ample choice of courses and I was not disappointed at any point.
Overall, The Palace Hotel offers high quality and amazing service all in a peaceful setting. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: The garden view rooms are well worth the extra money as they avoid a view of the car park!

Being going here for 30 years usually with a group of friends for a sporting break and the hotel is really second to none with a huge variety of sports on offer all free of charge. If you want to relax the public rooms and balcony are first class and the hotel and standards of service have a real old fashioned appeal. Because of this the clientele are mainly 'older' so perhaps I would have thought the hotel will not appeal to, nor does it really cater to, younger clientele. The rooms have gradually been refurbished over the years but some of the single rooms have not been done yet and although they are clean they really feel very tired. May not matter if you are on your own but couples need to take care they ask for a refurbished room. Wonderful value, good staff, roll on the next 30 years!

I took my elderly Mum for a 3 day break here. PERFECT !
Stunning old building & grounds that was like staying in Windsor castle for the weekend ! Top tip= pay the few pounds extra for a "Garden Room" with views out the back of the hotel. First appearances on arrival are deceptive and you may be concerned as the front of the hotel is disappointing. If you like old fashioned glamour and impeccable service this is the place, if not stay away. This hotel is a step back in time to the old days but with modern sporting facilities. Some aspects of the rooms are a little tired but this is all part of the charm and experience. Food is out of this world and amazing, on par with ANY top class restaurant. Would not say this place is particularly child friendly it is for the older clientèle. I can safely say you would not forget your stay here mainly for all the right reasons. Location is about a mile from Torquay harbour. Treated like royalty for 3 days !!!

I've just spent my birthday weekend at The Palace with a group of friends and family and had the best time there. The hotel is lovely, beautiful public areas - lounges, restaurants, gardens, very peaceful and tranquil. A fantastic olde worlde atmosphere. the staff are superb, friendly, efficient, polite and helpful - there were several changes back and forth over our arrangements which didn't faze the staff one bit - really helpful.
Some of the bedrooms are in need of updating but the room we had overlooking the gardens was very clean and comfortable if a little tired.

Room Tip: Consider an upgrade to a garden room - they are bigger rooms and the view is beautiful.

We have stayed here for many years the last time at the end of May. The hotel provides a tranquil setting in a relaxed atmosphere with good food as well as providing various leisure pursuits, golf tennis, swimming, pool to name but a few. We recently stayed in a superior garden room as an upgrade which was very comfortable and with a view over the beautiful garden. As a frequent visitor some of the rooms are a bit tired and would always recommend upgrading to a garden room if you can.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are preferable

we went to the hotel after looking at the reviews in the tripadvisor but i was really wrong that i looked at thatwe stayed here 3 months back and it is not even closer to what it was 3 months before the restaurant is a joke and the restaurant manager was a jokei mean that as he has got some problems as he is not decent at all and such a annoying guy
the food was bad as the quality we experienced 3 months before was the best i should say and we met with the head chef and apparently he has left the place and you can make out from the quality they offer now any way i am decided that i will not return to this again as i think a bed and breakfast is better quality than this
thanks
