This is truly the definition of lost grandeur, old and tired is the best description and eating in such a cavernous room leave little atmosphere. The food was OK but eating out and looking for better atmospheres is an absolute.

Just had a 4 day break at the Palace and thoroughly enjoyed it .The food was excellent as was the staff and the rooms, though a bit outdated , were fine..We also took advantage of the activities that were available for all guests I.e.indoor/outdoor pools, golf, table tennis, snooker.
I would heartily recommend this place to anyone of any age,and I hope that the possible renovations don't change the unique atmosphere and character of the place....if so.i'll be back..!!

Room Tip: Garden view

Ok so this wasn't our first choice to stop but as it was last choice as all the hotels was full we gave it a vg rating cuss overall its good its main problem is that the hotel is in need of up dating we had no issues with how clean the food was posh nosh siver service no less so the price a little on the high side staff was nice so would I go back yes but I would hope it gets some much needed up dates to help push it up that step to meet a top rating .

Lovely hotel, with beautiful gardens.
Room was absolutely spotless, very spacious, and had everything we needed.
24 hour room service came in handy when we fancied a bottle of Chardonnay upon returning from eating out... Though this unfortunately meant we then missed breakfast.
Hotel is well situated, and close by to the bars, restaurants and main sea front, which is lovely for an evening stroll.

Would definitely recommend, and would definitely return.

We have just returned from a week at the Palace - this time travelling as a family with 2 teenage girls. From the moment we arrived and saw our lovely adjoining garden-view rooms and the sun shining, we knew we were in for a great time. We loved spending sunny days by the outdoor pool, in-between rounds of golf and using the gym or playing table tennis. The Palace is a great base for visiting local attractions and for walks to Anstey Cove & Babbacombe. As always, the staff could not be more welcoming and helpful, especially accommodating all the dietary requirements of two teenagers! Our bedrooms and all public areas were spotlessly clean (the housekeeping team were very obliging). The evening meals were exceptional with quality produce, excellent presentation and served by friendly waiting staff. Breakfast was outstanding, with a wide range of fresh fruits, pastries, cereals and a tempting hot selection at the buffet. Every member of staff at the hotel was professional and enthusiastic, with a special thanks to Peter and Jose in the restaurant. Already looking forward to our next stay!!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the gardens will enhance any visitors stay at the Palace

Booked last minute as travelling Devon and Cornwall. Thought we would be safe with a 4* hotel
How wrong could we be the place needs millions spending on it to bring it up to standard. The outside of the building very shabby though have to say the hotel ground well kept.
The hotel had a damp smell about it which knocked me sick. On seeing our room I cried and didn't want to stay but as so last minute really had no choice. Room didn't look like it had been up dated since the hotel was build. The bathroom was dirty and very basic I didn't dare take a shower the bath was so minging plus the water that came out the shower was a trickle. The net curtains were black don't think they had ever been washed. The bed was all ripped and our dog sleeps on better bedding. There was a small tv that must of dated back to the 70's. I think this hotel needs re classifying a 4* it definitely isn't in it's present state.

Room Tip: Don't go

We booked this hotel last week less than 24 hours before we were due to stay . We had been completely let down with a booking we have for The Imperial so switched to this hotel. We could only have a standard room on the first night as that was all was available, and then move to a garden view room for the following two nights. The standard room was dismal and had no outlook with just noisy fans and a smell of bleach . We asked to be moved and were promptly given an executive garden view room at no extra cost. This was much brighter and had a lovely view. The decor of the room is very dated and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable but the management and staff were all very friendly and helpful. When we arrived , straight away the porter asked if he could help with our bags, we were checked in very quickly and were given a different room almost immediately when we said we were unhappy with first room. The breakfast was well organised and excellent each day , as was the evening meal in the restaurant . The food was excellent. The outdoor pool and indoor pool were disappointing . Although the weather was warm the outdoor pool was freezing. It was heated but not for long enough and the solar cover was missing so it would have taken forever to heat. The management said they were awaiting a cover. We then Tried the indoor pool. There appears to be a serious drain problem as you entered the changing room on the way in to the indoor pool. The smell was so bad I decided to change in the sauna changing room . The pool edge tiles at water level didnt look clean so we didnt stay long. It's a shame as both pools are a nice facility to offer if they were maintained better. The grounds were lovely which made up for the lack of sea view. My son joined us on the second night and they rolled a spare bed into our room. It was rather expensive for his place as they said it was a fixed price per head and made his breakfast and dinner expensive. He is only 16 and did not want a four course meal each evening but there was no option for him to eat a la carte . This would have been better in his case. Originally reservations had told me it was a price per head basis and that he could have his own room but this was not available when I eventually booked. They did adjust the price slightly but I still had to effectively pay £60 per day for his meals . Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. I would like to see the management update the bedrooms as the decor is very outdated and shabby. They also need. Address the drainage problem. Also mobile phone coverage very poor in hotel unless you are an O2 customer so wifi extended to the rooms would be a very good idea.

Room Tip: Choose a garden view room , all other rooms face from of hotel and can be noisy . Garden rooms very...
