In all honesty I thought we had booked ihn to a retirement village!!,we are in our late 60's and were the youngest by far.
We had a very pokey room with a window that didn't open on the basement floor,so we couldn't open the remaining one at night.
We found the staff stuffy and quite unfriendly.
Seems to be caught in a time warp really.
The breakfast though was wholesome and value for money
Our room was too small to put our suitcases on the floor, and the bathroom would be the smallest one I have ever seen'
ok you only had this cell left ,so make it a reasonable price 119 pound for this room is an extortion really, and this comes from a Hotel Manager from New Zealand

Room Tip: Really unless you're over 80 and desperate,i would move on ,

You couldn't get a hotel nearer to the beach---a tiny bay at the edge of Torquay. The bar, restaurant & patios all take advantage of this ideal position and view of the great curving sweep of the shore. The hotel staff are courteous, friendly and attentive. Old-fashioned luxury showed in the extensive breakfast menu and high-quality dinner cuisine. Our bedroom was adequate---I've given it four points because the mattress could have been a little better. All in all, excellent value.

As it was our first trip to Torquay, comparisons with a certain TV comedy were in our mind and we nicknamed the Cliff Hotel "Faultless Towers". But for the fact that we're adventurous, & have the rest of the world still to see, we'd certainly go back again, or---next best thing, I hope---stay at another Best Western hotel.

Possitives.....we had a good size room (plus en suite) with a sea view which we paid extra for .
The room was clean & tidy with a king size bed with more than enough cupboard & hanging space
There was a generous amount of tea/coffee etc left in the room as well as toiletries .
some of the staff were helpful .
I would recomment this hotel to those who like a very quiet time and over the age of sixty .
The hotel is situated about a mile or so out of town with far reaching views over to Torquay and beyond .
Breakfast good
Negatives......We found one of the femail restaurant staff pompous & unhelpful .
We were not impressed with the restauant evening menue & our braised steaks were dry .
It was difficult to understand why we would need to pay an supplement of £15.00 if we chose steak ( hence went for the braised steak, no supplement on that meal) .
Our room lacked character & the tv was much to small for the size of the room .
There was a window that would not close & all the top windows were open on arival, due to the hight of the windows we were unable to close them ( got cold on one night due to winds off the sea) .
Some guests who we got chatting to complained about their rooms and requested different rooms . One said his room had not been cleaned, with dirty towels, bed not changed etc. another couple said you couldnt swing a cat in their rooms, All of these guests were given different rooms with a refund .

Room Tip: chose a room with a sea view

Food was better than expected. Room was worse than expected. Had a sea view which really was excellent, the room was dreary and the bathroom hopeless. Complained about the shower which went from a dribble to a trickle. All the staff were great, friendly and really couldn't do enough. A lovely couple of days but for the shower. Penny pinching doesn't work, if that had been good id have given another star.

We spent another 5 days at the hotel again this year. The standards have not diminished from previous years. The restaurant service was exemplary again led by Ana,Patricia and Charles.
Our sea view room was very nice and apart from wave noise it' s very quiet at night. We met up with our old friend who visits every year and enjoyed his company in the restaurant and in the entertainment lounge. The entertainment was good on the three occasions when we did not go out after dinner. Non stop for 3 hours !!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms do not face the road

Went on a group trip and this choice of hotel couldn't be better. Made to feel very welcome by staff in reception and the restaurant. One of the best choices of menu for vegetarians that I've enjoyed. Food delicious. Room very clean. Very much hope to return there if holidaying in Torquay.
