“Most efficient and helpful staff ever”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

The staff in this hotel are second to none and a great credit to the hotel. So efficient, welcoming but unassuming, polite and really helpful to guests. We enjoyed a suberb dinner there - simply magnificent - every mouthful delicious and the presentation and service brilliant. The room was a nice size and very comfortable with a small balcony and sea view which was very welcome, the bed was very comfortable. Okay some of the decor is slightly dated and there were a few patched in paint marks in our room but it was more than presentable and why does everything have to be brand new all the time anyway? The breakfast was fantastic and the scrambled eggs the best I have ever tasted. Enjoyed being entertained by the resident band G&T. Will definitely book again. Also brilliant location.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a sea view & balcony

Stayed at this hotel for two nights. Very impressed with the standard of the cuisine and the service. Hotel very clean with all staff being very helpful and polite. We went as a couple but with a group of friends and a good time was had by all.
Our room was facing the sea room 39 and had the benefit of a small balcony. The room was large and the decor pleasant. The only downside was police and ambulance sirens going past when there was no visible need for the sirens at all. Even early Sunday morning with no other traffic about the sirens were on. I do recognize this was not the fault of the hotel!!

After a short stay at this hotel i came away with the feeling i have really been looked after and received exceptional service, especially from the two bar staff Alison and Jayson, they treated us more like family/ long known friends than simple guests.
true the rooms are tired and dated but the staff make up for this downside.
top tip try the catch of the day or ask Alison for specials

Great meal at the Corbyn Head Hotel this week. Really good menu with plenty of choice. Four excellent courses -highly recommend the mushroom risotto . The service is excellent -very attentive staff. Thanks Wayne for another great meal. We'll be back.

We had an enjoyable three nights at this hotel. It was clean and the staff were polite and professional. The cleaner was particularly friendly and helpful. On the down side, the hotel is dated in places, we had a stained but clean bed cover and there touched up patches on the wall.

The price we paid was probably the going rate for a sea view, but there are probably hotels with a more modern appearance for the same price.

We only had breakfast and a sandwich tea when we stayed. Breakfast choice was good and the full English just right - non greasy. Bar menu was pricey. Although the food was good, £5.50 for a drinking glass of strawberries and a spoonful of clotted cream was extortionate.

Having said all of that, no massive complaints, but we would shop around more if we visit Torquay again. You could probably find better for the same price if you book well ahead.

Other guests were more mature and it is clearly a traditional coach holiday destination, so bear that in mind if you are younger. However, the hotel was full on the three nights we stayed so they are clearly doing enough to get the business, wit that in mind why should they change too much?!

Me and my partner booked in over the bank holiday for my birthday treat, we had a sea view (room21), reception staff 100% friendly, was asked could they fetch our bags to out room, the room was loverly and clean, the beds were very comfy, and the bathroom was a good size.
We had tea and coffee making in the room and if we ran short they filled it up for us.
Breakfast staff were very polite, the food was loverly, and plenty of choice, they made you feel very welcome indeed. Nothing was to much for any of the staff in the hotel. I asked for a mug instead of the smaller cups and the lady on reception went straight away and got me one, she was brill.
We will 100% be coming back sometime soon, as loverly friendly, and priced right hotel.
Thank you to all the staff at the corbyn.

Booked a 3 night stay at £125 per night, breakfast was included I believe but we didn't eat in the hotel, preferring instead to try various places in Torquay. We had room 33 which boasts a beautiful view over the bay and was spotlessly clean.

Pros: Good location, beautiful sea view, staff very helpful and friendly, room was spotlessly clean.

Cons: No lift, decor and furniture desperately need updating, water pressure in the first floor shower wasn't very good.

Our room was double glazed (presumably the others are too) so noise from the very busy road was kept to a minimum, I'm quite a light sleeper and was able to get off without any problems, and the heavy curtains also kept the room dark enough to sleep through dawn. Trouble is, the room then gets very hot so I would eventually wake up sweating. Some light blinds would have been useful; because the dressing area is near to the window, you're either exposed to the world in all your glory or having to switch on the lights with the curtains closed.

I don't believe I'm the Corbyn Head Hotel's target market, I think that they cater more for older people on coach tours (I'm 36 and I didn't see anybody on my side of 65). My wife and I didn't venture into the dining room as it seemed stuffy and old-fashioned. One benefit of this however was that the hotel was nice and quiet and we didn't have to put up with anybody's children.

I enjoyed my stay but would not return to the hotel as it is, it is simply not aimed at me.
