I booked the restaurant at the Corbyn Head Hotel for my husband's 60th birthday lunch and I couldn't have been more pleased. The food was excellent and really good value for money but what made it extra special was the attentiveness of the staff who could not have been more helpful. We will certainly be returning again.

We stayed here 2nd and 3rd August 2014.....we were sold on this hotel by the photos of its location and pool area in its advertising.....the photos turned out to be very old. They forget to mention that the hotel is directly on a very busy main road with constant ambulance and police car sirens for company....the photos make it look like it is directly on the sea front....there is also a train line at the back
The pool area is a major disappointment.....the pool is dirty, more like a hole in the ground and the support rails are very loose and dangerous ...the tables, chairs and six sunloungers are disgustingly filthy....old and rusty and more bird muck stains....the pool is only 4ft six" at its deepest point, an adult couldn't swim in it
The front of the hotel has awnings covered in bird muck
Inside it smells like an old folks home, the corridors smell of greasy chips and other smells
Our room was tired with broken furniture, hard uncomfy bed but having said that it was clean, the bathroom was also clean and we were given clean towels
The reception staff are the hotels good point, very friendly and helpful......the dining room staff are all foreign and we found it a little difficult to be understood what we were asking for
Our first morning breakfast was very greasy so we chose not to dine here on the evenings.....other breakfast options were available.....there was no orange juice so we asked for some but gave up in the end
We paid £214 for two nights B/B.....would never stay here again.....not worth even half that....very disappointed !!!!!!

Room Tip: choose another hotel....don't stay here

What an unexpected pleasure - a great chef making great food at a fraction of the price it would be at home. What a pity so many guests preferred to go out and guzzle on chips and pizza. Their loss -or actually their gain, as they piled on the pounds around their waists. I enjoyed loads of smoked salmon and bass and wonderful plaice, all with the most artistic salads and sauces.

I was on the ground floor and as so many reviewers have pointed out, it was too hot when the sun shone and the windows were tiny. Also noisy, but I never leave home without earplugs so I survived that. Wi-fi said to be in rooms but not down my corridor. The bathroom was similarly old-fashioned and a particular dislike of mine is the fixed shower, way, way above my head and only controllable by taps the far side of the deluge of water.

Would I go again? Yes. I wish it well in the future.

Room Tip: Upper floors are cooler and back rooms train noise that stops at night rather than car and people no...

We spent 4 nights here from the 28 July 14. The hotel was first class and well worth its 3 stars. The room was very good but basic. But as we only really needed it to sleep in it was more than enough. We also took our 2 Shih Tzu dogs with us. The hotel will accept dogs by prior arrangement. Tea and coffee making facilities were made available in the room and were replenished each day. The quality of the food provided was exceptional and well cooked. The breakfast menu was excellent with a choice of fresh fruit and yogurt, and a varied menu to choose from such as the Full English Breakfast. Various fruit juices were also available. Tea and coffee was brought to your table by the excellent waiters/ess and toast was provided. Mid morning and afternoon teas were available and a lunch menu was available at midday as an extra. The evening meal consists of 4 courses. This is included in the DBB charges. For those that choose B&B the evening meal is available for an extra charge. There is a bar menu also available in the evening if you didn't want the 4 course meal and the food is to die for. The hotel is situated opposite the beach. This beach is one of a few where dogs are allowed. We had a fairly good view of the sea and of Torquay itself. There was noise from the main road that ran past the front and the railway line to the rear but this is to be expected. The staff were very good and friendly nothing was too much trouble. There is a very good bus service into Torquay which is about a 12 minute walk one way or to Brixham and Paignton the other way. There are plenty of attractions to see including the world wildlife centre where you can get up close and personal with the penguins. Torquay has a big wheel similar to the London Eye which gives you a good view over the marine and sea towards Brixham and the town centre to the rear and sides. We only had the 4 days which was not enough time to see all the sites around the coast and we WILL be returning to the Corbyn Head Hotel next year for another holiday. I can not recommend this hotel enough. We both fully enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: As we had the 2 dogs with us we were accommodated in room 49which was an end room next to the fire e...
