Recently changed hands. Offering same Carvery which is excellent, however the menu for all other food is very expensive and poor choice for what is primarily pub food, e.g Fish and chips £11.95 . Drinks have also appeared to have crept up in price. Lager and glass of white wine £8.90 .

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to put in a review after your recent visit. I am glad that you like the carvery which we believe we have enhanced considerably since taking over here last November.
I also appreciate that at a glance some of our menu could look expensive if compared to a typical pub menu. However we pride ouselves on being so much more than this... All of our menu dishes are lovingly prepared entirely from scratch using only the best ingredients by our team of Chefs lead by our hugely talented Head Chef, who has used his expertise to turn the menu around. The vast majority of our customers find this to be not expensive but very good value for money. Hopefully you will be able to visit again soon and sample our a la carte menu, I am sure you will not be dissapointed.
Kindest regards
Andrew

Visited Sunday 15th April.

A standard carvery, plenty of veg and potatoes to help yourself to - all a bit lacking in flavour.

Cheap enough though at £7.95 per person.

Hi Patrick

Thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback on you recent visit, we are glad that you find us to be of good value but of course sorry to hear that you did not find our selection of fresh but simple vegetables and local roast meats with home made gravy to your liking. Maybe i could recommend our a la carte menu which has much more intense and varied flavours and ingredients.
Cheers
Andrew

Visited the Royal last night so pleased with the food lovely varied menu something for everyone cooked and presented to a very high standard. Really enjoyed the idea of the platter to start - had the one with cheese ham carrots celery etc really good. I have never left a review before but felt The Royal deserves a mention people need to know what a good food place it is. The service was also excellent and the view is beautiful. Look at Royal site gives you all the information you need ENJOY

Good quality and well cooked. Plenty of choice and good value for money. The food could have been a little hotter but understandably it is not easy to keep food piping hot. Would recommend it to friends.

Every time I go to Torquay I always take a trip to the Royal - as one, I used to live down there and know the place, and secondly, great value for your money as well as having a wonderful view over Babbacombe. Had lunch one day and will admit to having the carvery, which has a selection of your usual Beef, Pork, Turkey and Gammon, all cooked to perfection. A regular size is £7.95 whereas the senior citizen size is £5.95 and once the meat is plated, you just help yourself to the veg and potatoes. They have a small but ample lunch time menu as well, and one family member ordered the gammon sandwich which when it arrived was huge and served with a small salad and roast potatoes. The serving staff really cannot do enough for you and really do make the place very pleasant indeed.
I went again with different family members on the Tuesday and this night is Curry Night, again, reasonably priced with a good selection of Curries to choose from. Don't be scared though, as some of us had curry while others ordered from the main menu which offered a variety from Fish and Chips to Slow Cooked Belly Pork (This looked delicious actually).

Would absolutely recommend this place over some of the expensive restaurants in the area and I look forward to eating here again.
