“Excellent service to match the wonderful accomodation”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and chose it because of the very positive reviews.
We stayed in Attic room 7 . Behind an unassuming door laid a beautifully appointed room and well worth the climb up the stairs. The sitting area just off the bed room overlooked the gardens and provided a wonderful view of the sea framed by trees. And we spend quite some time sitting there enjoying tea and just taking in the view. The bathroom was stunning, spacious with a superb huge roll top bath which easily fit two ( I expect).
We happened to be staying on one of the themed nights, Fawlty Towers, which despite being a bit apprehensive I would recommend to anyone.
Afternoon tea was superb and hit the spot, dinner was also very good, but the one thing that stood out above all else was the exceptional service from all the staff and they should be commended for this. Without exception they were courteous, hard working - just brilliant. I would recommend this hotel to all and will be returning

Room Tip: Try room 7, well worth the climb up the stairs

My wife and I spent 4 excellent days at the end of June 2014 at The Orestone Manor, and we were really impressed by absolutely everything about this lovely hotel! We stayed in Room 6 (The Oriental Room), which was very spacious and comfortable with quality furniture and fabrics and a huge bed. Our balcony overlooked the car park and front of the Hotel with a tinkling water fountain, with a glimpse of the sea through a small gap in the trees (there are much better sea views seen from the rear facing rooms.) Our roomy en-suite bathroom had his and hers hand basins, walk-in shower, bidet and a huge roll-top bath you can fit two people in (allegedly.)
We ate in the restaurant every morning and evening, and the quality and variety of the food was excellent! They held a 'Crab and Lobster Evening' while we were there which was first class (Oh, their Lobster Bisque WOW!) - our compliments to the Chef!
However, we both think the jewel in the Orestone's crown belongs to each and every one of their hardworking, courteous and brilliant staff, many thanks from us - we will return . . .

We came upon Orestone Manor by chance when we were looking for somewhere for lunch.
We were shown to the patio area where we could sit and look out over the gardens and to the sea. The staff were very attentive and polite. There was sufficient choice for all the tastes of our party and when the food arrived we were not disappointed. The presentation and taste were great. Enjoying the view, we stayed for coffee and spent a good two hours without being hurried.
We will certainly return.

A super stay - old style service - courteous, efficient, attentive but not obtrusive. Nothing too much trouble. Huge room with equally huge bed (room 3) Lovely sea view from room and from terrace. Superb food both at breakfast and at dinner - we didn't want to leave !

We stayed with friends here in March 2014 for two birthday celebrations. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean we were right at the top of the hotel and my husband joked ( in the servants rooms !! ) which in fact I think they could of been at one time, as mentioned before the stairs are extremely steep to get to these rooms. The room and bathroom especially was a little dated. We did not have the lovely rooms shown with the 4 poster bed !!. This may of been due to us booking this break on a deal price ?
On the Friday evening the hotel was hosting a pudding club evening and we were invited to join in .This was good fun if not rather rich and filling ??!!
All the food we had was good quality and well cooked.
Also lovely cocktails in the bar.
Great place to stay to visit lots of really nice places in Devon.
Nice hotel would go back relaxing and quiet. One point we hated the sign for the hotel, we felt the signage was completely out of keeping with this elegant hotel more like a travel lodge sign awful !

Room Tip: Not the servants quarters !!!

Thank you for your review
We are very pleased you had a lovely time and enjoyed your stay thank you for your comments on our food and service which we pride ourselves on.
Our website shows pictures of all of our rooms, all of which are very different from each other naturally most of the top floor rooms are a better price than the first. The rooms are decorated in a time gone fashion, some say colonial, but with good facilities such as power showers and flat screen televisions. we are pleased to offer quality rooms throughout but we are constantly updating and improving the Hotel and rooms, not just the best rooms, We have recently installed a Jacuzzi Hot tub on the Private Terrace overlooking the sea in our Garden Suite. But as you say the really great thing about Orestone manor is the peace and Tranquility, so rare these days, where you feel you can properly relax and be taken care of.
Visit us again soon and phone Hotel reception to enable us to pair you with a room to suit your own style.

Large rooms, full of creaky character. Immaculately clean, wonderful staff with appropriate hospitality. Excellent food in the restaurant....an amazing gin and tonic in the lounge. We had the wild mushroom tagliatelle with large fresh salad and mushroom omelette. Lovely Chilean house red. Coffee with delicious chocolates. Beautiful views from the rooms
