“25th wedding anniversary meal was very very poor.”
Reviewed 26 March 2013

We booked into the Osbourne Hotel very excited to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary on the 17th sept 2012.Just wished we had not booked our anniversary meal there. We live in Teignmouth & are fortunate to have, ample excellent restaurants to choose from, how ever may be this was our down fall. The Osbourne Menu read fantastic, with great flavours & interesting dishes. We were so disappointed, what was served. The goats cheese starter had NO goats Cheese flavour, my husbands lobster was so over cooked & dry he could't eat it,as for the triple cooked chips they were terrible . We spent the evening sending half the food back, waiting for sauce that never arrived & feeling very upset our anniversary was so spoiled. My husband was convinced there was no Head Chef on duty that evening,as such poor standard of food would never be allowed to leave the kitchen. We paid for the meal as it was with the room booking, but the extra supplement was not included as a 'sorry'. for such bad food. But it was a special occasion & would of gladly paid twice the price to guarantee a great meal.We left our feed back form from our room to reception, letting them know how bad the food was,but never heard a reply.

Dear lizmb926 ,

Thank you for your recent review , I am glad to read you liked many aspects of the hotel its location, rooms and cleanness.

However i am sad to read your evening meal was not up to our usual standards , and i apologize for not making your 25 anniversary truly special .I am glad our reception team made a gesture of good will on your departure .

Perhaps you could contact me personally and discuss further on how we can restore your faith in the Osborne

Upon arival at the hotel we were able to get a parking space near the front of the hotel, although there is an overspill car park at the back of the hotel. Since it is a residential area the vechicles are likely to be safe. Our check in was very efficient and friendly, and our room was clean and warm. It was starting to look a little tired but certainly not tatty. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious, but did lack a shelf or unit to put anything such as a toiletry bag on. We were at the back of the hotel and this meant it was very quiet so great for peaceful sleep!
We stayed here during February and were fortunate that the weather was mild. Since the hotel is virtually on the sea front at Meadfoot we were able to have a pleasant stroll along the beach before it got dark. You can also walk further up to Marine Drive where there are great views back towards Torquay and some very fine residences! The walk is steep in parts.
Walking in the other direction you are very close to Daddyhole Plain with views towards Brixham, and you can walk along the coast path into Torquay. It can be a little muddy in places and there are some steps, it will take about half an hour to walk to the harbour.
Breakfast was efficient and there was a good variety of tasty food. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening because we like The Linney Inn, but the hotel's menu looked OK and the prices reasonable.
I do think the hotel misses an opportunity with regard to the bar and lobby areas. Given that this is a grand old building, the exterior of which had just been painted, personally I found the areas mentioned to be very plain and bland, and they certainly didn't entice us to stay.
Overall we had a good experience at this hotel, and would recommend it.

Really great food in their spacious dining room, the staff were charming and efficient, with just the right level of care and attention. I had the special - lemon sole - probably the best I have ever eaten .... more fish on the menu please and then I could eat there ever night!

went away for mid week break found the osborne to be impressive from the outside in which the hotel to be the middle section of the building the rest being time share apartments.the room being clean and tastefully decoratored.we were very let down by the evening meal my wife had steak & triple cooked chips, and i had steak & ale pie ,triple cooked chips when it arrived the pastry was so dry it crumbled into sawdust asked for gravy it was so dry,the triple cooked chips were burn't charcoal offerings.i asked for a replacement meal of steak & chips by the time it arrived my wife had finished and it was not much better, the evening was ruined.the next evening went into torquay havester pub and had a better meal at half the cost.i am just glad i did not pay the full price for the two nights.

We went to the Osborne on a KGB deal. We wanted to go last November but my grand daughter suffered a broken arm and so we put the trip off until last week. The reason for the delay was that we stay in hotels with leisure facilities, ie pool as we both enjoy a few hours swimming and lying by the pool. This is the first one we have stayed at where there are no loungers, no music, a very bland decor which is accentuated by the lack of natural light. Also there were small pieces of something on the bottom of the pool which we thought was from the ceiling which has holes in. There is also black around the edge of the pool which is either mildew or the remnants of same. Also, there is a tiny changing room with one shower, which meant that we had to stay in while a lady took her two children in to shower and change. We skipped the shower, put on our clothes and went to our room
Having said all that, the rest of the hotel is great! The staff, particularly the waiting and housekeeping, were first rate. The room was spotless, warm and very comfortable. The breakfasts and dinner were excellent.

I appreciate that for the summer there is an outside pool, but for those wanting a pleasant swim and lounge inside, things could be improved. If the pool doesn't interest you, it's a very good hotel.

Needed a break and what a great place,a front room more like a suite, looking at the best view around. Then to go into a very smart restaurant and at such fair prices, not easily beat.Carefull for the lager as its tasty and strong, and the front is newly and expertly painted to such a high level of finish that it shows the management of this establishment really care to look for a quality other places may not,and may not even care about thus taking away from the guest that extra special feeling(usually found whilst drinking said lager, probably the best drink in the world).and dont we go away for a good feeling? You may well get it here, treat yourself.By the way,you wont hear much traffic as this is select.

Room Tip: Front rooms are best of course

Excellent day and evening, and were made to feel like 5 star. Got an update to the Haldon suite, it blew my wife away, topped off with good weather and balcony sun loungers. Had evening meal in the restaurant, again cannot fault it. The staff were brilliant and nothing was an issue, all our needs were catered for, topped off with a nice breakfast in our room.

Really quality for the money, would recommend the Osborne to anyone, Tiffany and Carlos were very accommodating. Thank you very much. ***** 5 star

Room Tip: any of the Balcony rooms, for sea views.
