The Osborne Hotel is certainly one of the better hotels in Torquay, but still our experience was rather disappointing. We had three Junior Suites with Sea View which were all three really spacious and clean but a bit "run down" and in one room the uneven floor was rather extreme. The bathrooms were clean too, however the water pressure was very low in two of our rooms. The really disappointing bit of the hotel was not the rooms but the state of the corridors and stairs (really in need of refurbishing!) and above all the unfriendliness and lack of motivation of the staff. I was rather shocked by constantly being given the impression of being a burden to everyone (I am always very polite, so it can hardly be my fault). Breakfast was very disappointing too (it cannot be so difficult to make a decent scrambled eggs and buy acceptable fruit juice!). Probably I would accept all the negative points mentioned if the hotel were half the price - but like this it's ridiculously overpriced. The positive aspects are the location of the hotel (if you have sea view rooms), a relatively reliable wifi and the beach which is only 2mins from the hotel. There is also a gym, and indoor and an outdoor pool, but we haven't used these facilities.

Room Tip: It seems that rooms facing the back have been refurbished whilst the rooms with sea view (at least t...

Thank you for your review and kind comment" certainly one of the better hotels in Torquay" . We only stayed one night on our journey to Cornwall. It had been recommended by a family member. We had booked through booking. com for a dinner bed and breakfast deal. The welcome on arrival was good but the service on the terrace bar was very poor and one of the staff was extremely rude. Food and restaurant service was good but our room was very disappointing. It was situated at the back of the hotel overlooking a flat roof, which despite the flower tubs was pretty poor to say the least. The bathroom was very dark and musty. The bed linen hadn't been ironed and the window looking out over the flat roof couldn't be locked so security was a concern. Parking at the hotel is very poor for such a large hotel of this standard and although it is not the fault of the hotel itself, someone, I assume who was staying at the hotel kindly bumped into the back of my car and left me a small dent, very kind, and didn't have the courtesy to report it and own up to it.
We might consider staying at the Osborne again but it wouldn't be my first choice on my first experience.

My wife and I live in torbay and as we had not been to the Osborne for a number of years decided to take lunch on the outside bistro terrace. The views of Torbay are probably the best in the bay area with the possible exception of the Berry Head hotel and imperial hotels. The service provided was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Food choice was good and prices about average for the Summer season here in Torbay. The terrace overlooks lovely lawns, gardens, tennis court and swimming pool and the onwards to Thatcher rock and Torbay itself. Food quality was also good. As we had not been to the hotel for some time we went to look at Langtrys's restaurant inside the hotel. It was pretty much as we remembered and about what you would expect for this standard of hotel in Torbay. However the rest of the hotel is badly in need of refurbishment and/or a coat of paint.........if you are after a relaxing and peaceful place to eat al fresco on a warm summers evening / lunch, then give this place try you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Did not stay in hotel, just dined outside.....

This place has the look of a nice hotel but it is shabby and poorly run. Our bathroom was filthy - dirty bath, mould on the shower tiles, dirty wash basin and a toilet roll left nearly finished. The food at breakfast was very mediocre, badly presented and served. Overall, I was very disappointed at this place. I complained to the staff when checking-out but they were really not bothered at all. I will not be going there again.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel if you want a nice room.

Very attractive hotel (converted crescent of terrace houses) with a sea view, set in nice gardens. Easy walk down to a beach, although the centre of Torquay is probably too far to walk for most people or for a family with children (there is a bus to the town centre). The gardens feature a good sized pool and a very nice patio bar that also serves food. Great place to spend a quiet evening. Our room was a good size, comfortable, with a large bathroom. Two on-site restaurants, one casual and one more formal. We had a very nice dinner and breakfast in the main dining room. There is a good sized gym with plenty of equipment - it is open to non-residents on a monthly membership basis, but never seemed too crowded.

The hotel is a converted row of fine homes overlooking Torbay and in a peaceful location without the noise of traffic. It is a combination of hotel and timeshare with adequate free and secure parking although if you park in the rear there is a few minute walk.

We had a junior suite overlooking Torbay and the view was as good as any we have experienced in continental Europe. Note that the rooms do not have a/c and face south. The hotel was in the process of renovating rooms and should we stay there again I would make sure that the bed was modern in construction and not vintage with all the accompanying squeaks and groans. Make that clear when booking.

The Osborne has 2 restaurants: one fine dining and the other a bistro. We were very happy with the bistro. Breakfast was outstanding as were the other meals. The staff were efficient, polite and friendly.

Torquay was a good 15 minute walk up and down hill or take the hourly bus. We took the ferry over to Brixham and that was fun. Plenty of good walking along the seafront from the hotel. The hotel is a good base camp for exploring the 'English Riviera'.

In summary a wonderful location with good food and staff.

Room Tip: The front faces the sea, the back hillside. The room prices reflect this. Book an updated room.

Stayed here a number of times and had a great experience. Had wedding breakfast here and they were really helpful. A number of timeshare apartments take up most of the building and these are better value with all the hotel facilities. Lovely views and within walking distance of Torquay A fab village if you follow the left road out of the hotel

Room Tip: Stay in club Osborne apartments
