“Superb stay....once again.”
Reviewed 7 November 2010

Just returned this lunchtime from a 3-night stay on DB&B. We've been visiting the Osborne for about 13 years now - usually make a once-a-year visit.
We had a Beautiful room, very spacious - we don't pay for a seaview, simply because we found the sound of the sea too noisy many years ago! And how many of us spend the day looking out to sea?
It's fairly quiet at the mo, but the level of service from all the staff was excellent and with long-standing food&beverage manager, Lionel, still there the staff are certainly polite and attentive. Food in Langtry's is 'fine dining', so if that's not your taste, then eat in the Brassiere instead, which is also good quality. The choice of menu each night was superb and varied - food was excellent. We made our usual visits to Dartmouth and to Torcross and Blackpool Sands. A real chill out weekend with top notch food.
Only gripe is the price of the drinks in the Brassiere - why hotels keep charging v high prices is beyond me? you just drive people to drinking in their rooms with value drink from supermarkets or going to other pubs - charge pub prices and people will purchase more drinks in the hotel's bars. It's simple economics in my eyes. Also found out that members of the health club (in the hotel) and timeshare patrons enjoy a 10% discount off drinks in the Brassiere - slightly sour taste there.
But we'll still be back next year.

Great location, overlooking Meadfoot Bay. We had a balcony room with a four poster bed which was very clean and well appointed.
The highlight for us was the restaurant food - probably as good a meal as you can get! Really impressed. Good value too!

This hotel is in a lovely crescent of houses high overlooking the bay. Seaside rooms have balconies with stunning views. We had a junior suite which was delightful. The hotel is quiet with very friendly service. It is a great place to stay in a town full of B&B's. The weather was wonderful and we saw it its best but September was too chilly to enjoy their great pool.

My husband and I have just spent 4 nights/3 days at The Osbourne Hotel.
We stayed in the Haldon Suite which has a king size bed, and fantastic views over the
bay towards Brixham. There is an indoor and outdoor pool and a gym. The food was
excellent and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
It was the second time we had been back and we would definately recommend it.
I cannot understand some of the negative comments about this hotel. We have never
had any problem with it and I suggest that people try it for themselves before making a decision based on some of the poor comments.
The people who complain are usually the sort that would complain just for the sake of it,
and are probably pretty unpleasant customers themselves.
You would have to listen to the hotel's side of the story before making a judgement.

Greeted by friendly professional staff who offered to show us a couple of rooms before we decided to go ahead. We had just booked out of a poor quality hotel in Torquay. Spacious bedroom and bathroom adequately equipped. We were given the opportunity of keeping the room until 12 noon (an extension of 1 hour) as we were going to a show that finished at midnight! However we decided to book for a second night.

Superb breakfast with buffet cereals, fruit juices, figs, prunes, cold meats/cheeses , and waitress service for hot drinks, full english breakfast etc. Very attentive polite staff - nothing was too much trouble for them.

The dining room was spacious with plenty of room between the tables which provided an intimate atmosphere. We took dinner in their Langtry Restaurant on the second night - three courses for £21 (usual price £27) - we were more than pleased with the menu choices and the presentation of lovely food served on hot plates. All the little touches that go to making a meal a very pleasant dining experience were there!

We didn't stay at the Osborne, thank goodness(!), but went for afternoon tea to celebrate my mother's birthday. Well what a dissapointment. I really cannot believe in this economic climate how staff at an hotel can get away with being so incredibly rude and incompetant. Because we chose to sit on the terrace, the waiter told us that we would have to take our own drinks across as with only 2 staff working they would be backwards and forwards too much!! Then, when we went to order afternoon tea for 8 of us the barman rudely replied 'what do you mean afternoon tea?' So we had to clarify by saying 'cream tea'!! This is DEVON for gooodness sake, does it really need explaining? He then proceeded to be completely offhand, and begrudgingly prepared our drinks and took our money (£50plus) without a comment or a smile in sight!! When our scones arrived we had to ask for butter for my mum as she doesn't eat cream, which once again threw the waiter into a spin, as he had to go and find the chef!!! He finally came out and said he could only give us margarine!!! It was like being in an episode of Fawlty Towers, but not funny!!! Will definitely not be going back, and will put anyone I know off going to this hotel for any reason.
