“Great location, shame about the attitude of the staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2011

Having stayed at the Osborne 6 months previously, we went straight for booking it again on this business trip. On arrival this time, we were hugely dissapointed by the reception we received. The staff made us feel like we were unwelcome and almost as if it were a hassle to check us in. All it takes is a smile and a simple bit of courtesy to make people feel welcome. Even when we dragged a member of staff to the bar to serve us at 10pm they made us sign the room bill receipt after each drink with such speed and distrust which made us feel like criminals rather than PAYING guests. Do that many people run away without paying their bar bill in Torquay? They had our credit card details for gods sake.
On the POSITIVE side, the rooms are great sized suites with everything you might need and with views to die for, the restaurant is great if a little pricey and there is a gym and pool.
Come on guys..... A little smile and a 'how was your journey here' wouldn't go amiss. Bring back the old staff.

Just returned this lunchtime from a 3-night stay on DB&B. We've been visiting the Osborne for about 13 years now - usually make a once-a-year visit.
We had a Beautiful room, very spacious - we don't pay for a seaview, simply because we found the sound of the sea too noisy many years ago! And how many of us spend the day looking out to sea?
It's fairly quiet at the mo, but the level of service from all the staff was excellent and with long-standing food&beverage manager, Lionel, still there the staff are certainly polite and attentive. Food in Langtry's is 'fine dining', so if that's not your taste, then eat in the Brassiere instead, which is also good quality. The choice of menu each night was superb and varied - food was excellent. We made our usual visits to Dartmouth and to Torcross and Blackpool Sands. A real chill out weekend with top notch food.
Only gripe is the price of the drinks in the Brassiere - why hotels keep charging v high prices is beyond me? you just drive people to drinking in their rooms with value drink from supermarkets or going to other pubs - charge pub prices and people will purchase more drinks in the hotel's bars. It's simple economics in my eyes. Also found out that members of the health club (in the hotel) and timeshare patrons enjoy a 10% discount off drinks in the Brassiere - slightly sour taste there.
But we'll still be back next year.

Great location, overlooking Meadfoot Bay. We had a balcony room with a four poster bed which was very clean and well appointed.
The highlight for us was the restaurant food - probably as good a meal as you can get! Really impressed. Good value too!

This hotel is in a lovely crescent of houses high overlooking the bay. Seaside rooms have balconies with stunning views. We had a junior suite which was delightful. The hotel is quiet with very friendly service. It is a great place to stay in a town full of B&B's. The weather was wonderful and we saw it its best but September was too chilly to enjoy their great pool.

My husband and I have just spent 4 nights/3 days at The Osbourne Hotel.
We stayed in the Haldon Suite which has a king size bed, and fantastic views over the
bay towards Brixham. There is an indoor and outdoor pool and a gym. The food was
excellent and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
It was the second time we had been back and we would definately recommend it.
I cannot understand some of the negative comments about this hotel. We have never
had any problem with it and I suggest that people try it for themselves before making a decision based on some of the poor comments.
The people who complain are usually the sort that would complain just for the sake of it,
and are probably pretty unpleasant customers themselves.
You would have to listen to the hotel's side of the story before making a judgement.
