After much research I am really glad that we chose the Meadfoot Bay Hotel for a four day break which started on Friday 13th Sep !!!

We received a very warm welcome from Chris with a nice cup of coffee in the tastefully decorated lounge. Nothing was to much for Chris and his family to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. We stayed in room three, on the ground floor, a deluxe room plenty of space with a separate wet room. The room had every thing we needed, tea coffee, wide screen TV, massive bed, safe , leather settee, desk, ironing board , iron, dressing gowns and slippers.

Breakfast was lovely large spread with a fantastic choice to cover all tastes. I especially enjoyed the home made muesli and poached eggs.

The only problem with highly recommending this gem, is that it will make much more difficult to make a future booking.

Thank you Chris and family.

our third visit to the meadfoot and we can't fault it.Chris greeted us in his usual charming manner giving us coffee and biscuits and then taking our luggage to our room.the room was tastefully decorated and clean.all mod cons. including irioning board and iron flat screen tv hairdryer bathrobes and slippers.there was plenty of wardrobe space.
the decantor of sherry from gary was a lovely gesture.
spoilt for choice at breakfast both english and continental .sets you up for the day.
Highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: room 10 has a good size bathroom and a large shower enclosure with a very good power shower.

The Meadfoot Bay is a lovely building run by a family who treat their guests as though they're real guests of the family, not just customers. The welcome is not a "come to reception" but a "come into the lounge, grab a comfy chair and we'll bring you tea and coffee so you can relax after your journey; then come along to reception when you're ready and we'll take your bags to your room".

The volume of top-rated reviews is justified and the comments about the extensive buffet breakfast are all accurate; the cooked breakfasts are also excellent and set us up for the day.

We were in Room 5 which has a small terrace outside complete with table, chairs and a swing seat (shame the weather meant we couldn't fully enjoy this) overlooking the terraced gardens. The shower room is totally tiled with nice, sparkly, black floor tiles. The electric shower is wonderfully powerful and the bedroom has everything needed, including flatscreen tv and an i-pod dock/charger. The complimentary decanter of sherry is a nice touch in Agatha Christie land. Good towels, robes and ample storage complete the picture. Despite the hotel being full, there was no noise heard from other rooms.

Car parking is tight but we always found a space.

Meadfoot beach is just 5 minutes down the hill as is the local bus stop.

Room Tip: All rooms have apparently been re-fitted this year and to a high standard. Room 5 has rear terrace t...

The rave reviews for this hotel do not in any way exaggerate how good it is, from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave the owners cannot do enough for you. We had the compact room which was very neat and tidy, the bathroom was well laid out with modern fittings. Breakfast is superb with an excellent choice and there is also a bar facility in the evening. The hotel lounges are very well furnished with comfortable seating areas. Will go again and without doubt recommend.

Room Tip: Dont be afraid to book a compact room still very comfortable.

We had a short stay at the Meadfoot at the beginning of September and stayed in the Signature Suite with it's own balcony area (the one in the pic with the settee at the bottom of the bed). It was nicely spacious - which is just what we wanted (suitable for a v.tall person). Lovely spacious bathroom, but the downside of it being at the top of the house was the water pressure was sadly feeble; hampering the power shower and making running a bath take absolutely ages (I gave up in the end). (Also, you can hear the washing machine on it's spin cycle in the next room if you're using the bathroom in the early morning.). There was no air conditioning/extractors. The balcony was large enough to sit out on and has a chair swing! I can echo the other positive comments, this is a well-run family hotel, really friendly and helpful with a gigantic selection for Breakfast. Beautifully cooked (hot) English Breakfast too using local produce; only open for an hour though (9am to 10am), it would be nicer if it was a bit longer, however, we'll give it 10 out of 10 for quality. There is no lift in the Hotel and the Signature Room is on the top floor (so you can have a balcony/terrace). So, if you're not good with stairs, perhaps would be better to choose a room on the ground floor. Also, for people new to Torquay, be warned that it's very hilly, so if you're not too clever on your pins or have tricky knees (like me), take your time to carefully check where your hotel is. On the map it looked to me like a short walk down to the beach and town. Actually it was a steep downhill walk down to the beach in one direction; to walk into town the other direction, a very steep uphill, then extremely steep downhill walk to the harbourside. Best to take a taxi either way, circa £3.50 a time. Regular Walkers (e.g., with the Norwegian Walking Poles) will have no problem. We would stay there again, but take the car next time.

Room Tip: Depending on how mobile you are, there's a couple of flights of stairs to get to the top of the...
