This was our 6th stay at the Meadfoot Bay and it was perfect. Caroline, Chris and Gary made us very welcome and worked very hard to make our stay memorable. An excellent place to stay in a select area of Torquay. It is within walking distance of Torquay harbour and Meadfoot Bay. There is a superb choice of food for breakfast, it is cooked and presented to perfection. Cleanliness and attention to detail throughout the Meadfoot is guaranteed. The terraced gardens are pleasant to sit and relax in. We are hoping to return again next year. Mary and Brian.

Having decided on a last minute visit to Torquay primarily to dine at The Elephant restaurant (of which more in another review) we began the search for accommodation.

After an hour or so of trawling this site and phoning to book in the height of summer, two days before travelling we realised this may not be one of our better ideas until we finally stumbled on the Meadfoot and all I can say is that I am so glad we did.

We stayed in a superior double at the front of the house and our immediate reaction when we entered the room was a) how clean and fresh looking it was and b) what a large amount of attention to detail there was. Decoration was top class, bedding crisp and clean and my wifes number one complaint regarding many hotel rooms i,e lack of decent dressing table immediately forgotten. With welcoming drinks, robes and slippers the room was certainly better than we had expected and experienced over our years of travelling and staying in this type of accommodation.

I should mention that we had a hefty 25% discount on the "rack" rate which meant we paid a shade over £100 per night for the room. At this price it was excellent value I suppose it could be argued that if we had paid the full rate of £125 lots of the things we are complimenting would have been more expected.

Having skimmed through some of the other reviews we noted a couple of less complimentary comments, the first was that the hotel was quiet , we agree and yippeee for that we say! The second slightly adverse comment was from a reviewer not too favourably comparing the Meadfoot breakfast to a 4 star hotel, well, each to their own! We haved stayed in many, many hotels of all categories over the years and the breakfast at the Meadfoot was simply excellent.

So, a clean, quiet hotel with helpful owners and a cracking breakfast for £100 per night. It simply has to be highly recommended.

We stayed at Meadfoot Bay Hotel in June 2010 to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday - I wanted something special for a very special occasion and this is exactly what we got! From booking to check-out, nothing was too much trouble for the Waters family.

I asked for the celebration package of flowers, chocolates & champagne and sure enough, on arrival the beautiful flowers, gift-wrapped chocolates and chilled champagne were right there waiting in our luxurious room, which had it's own decked terrace complete with swing-seat and bistro set.

Breakfast was served impeccably by Chris, and consisted of an astounding array from the buffet and a delicious full english using top-quality ingredients. Even Gary's recommended location for our evening meal produced an excellent & thoroughly-enjoyed end to the day.

Even the next day when I had to return to the hotel not feeling too good with heavy cold, Chris was there to produce a welcome jug of chilled squash to ease the discomfort of a sore throat.

I cannot praise the Waters family enough for their hospitality - the Meadfoot Bay is really something for them to be proud of. I would recommend this hotel to all, and we will certainly be returning ourselves for a further helping.

Sometimes when you get a hotel internet bargain you think it must be too good to be true! On this occasion I was happy to be wrong.
the welcome was excellent, the room was very good, staff were very friendly and with free wireless internet! it was a little walk into the main town, but please don't let this put you off. the breakfast was one of the best I have ever experienced! In conclusion a great value little gem, and I will be back.

This is the 2nd time we have been to this hotel and it just gets better. The owners can't do enough for you, the bedrooms are to a very high standard, clean and extremely comfortable. We stayed in the Wentworth room and its spacious and has a brilliant bed. The breakfasts are lovely. We can't praise this hotel enough and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody. We will definitely return.

Have just returned from this lovely hotel, after spending the May Day Bank holiday away with hubby and friends.
We were staying in the Valderama Suite, which was extremely comfortable especially as it has the outside balcony with swinging seat and patio furniture. Unfortunately we were unable to make full use of the lovely balcony owing to the weather being dull and cold most of our stay. The bed was a standard 4ft 6 inches which wasn't a problem for me as that is the size we sleep on at home. It was very comfortable and the bedding of high quality. The en-suite shower room very pleasant with an excellent power shower and beautiful high quality bath towels, however will warn other guests intending to book this suite, that the hot water does take a long time to reach the taps, so if you are after a shave or a wash in a hurry, may be advisable to boil the kettle. Again I appreciate that this is an old building and the boiler is probably located a long way from the suite so the water has to travel. I am not complaining, just observing. Do not try and run the tap at the same time as the shower is on, because you will not get any water and may be likely to cause damage to the shower.
The wardrobe space was adequate for our needs as we always travel light, and were only staying a few days however if you stay for a fortnight and like to have oodles of outfits to choose from, then it may be a problem.
The friendly owners went out of their way, on many occasions to be helpful to us, which is always appreciated when you are not familiar with the area. The customer service was second to none, trust me I have worked in this sector for many years, and they could not have been more helpful, if they tried.
The breakfast was good, there was plenty of choice, and service was excellent. The breakfast dining room very nicely laid out, and everything available to hand.
There are two very pleasant rooms which the guests can use to relax, the bar is also handy should anyone require a coffee or a nightcap.
One thing that really did cause a bit of a nasty taste in our mouths regarding Torquay and surrounding areas, was the riddiculously high car park charges. My husband is registered disabled, and holds a blue badge however this does not cut any ice with Torquay Council. It would seem that everybody has to pay the top whack, whether disabled or not, to park their car in a car park. Many disabled folk have very little pleasures out of life, but this really does take the biscuit. In Babbacombe on Sunday we even spotted a Warden checking the car park for pay and display tickets. We also would have loved to have gone to the Theatre whilst in Torquay, but were informed that there was nothing on, in any of the 3 Theatres in the area. The reason for this being: "people arriving and people leaving Torquay at week-ends so would not want to attend a show " :-S
