“Great Hotel!”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and cant recommend it enough! A really friendly welcome on our arrival with plenty of great advice on what to do and where to eat. Lovely room and comfortable bed, great choice for breakfast. The hotel is in a great spot, just a 5 min walk from the town center. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. What a great hotel!!!

Stayed for 4 nights, on arrival we were looked after by one of the owners who was very friendly, helpful and informative, our room was great, bed very comfy, bathroom small but not a problem, the walk in shower was very good, breakfast was excellent and the lovely lady who looked after us was so helpful, a real credit to the hotel!

Ideal hotel, just park your car and forget about it, walking to the bay, shops, restaurants only takes 5 mins, only trouble is the steep hill back, especially if you've had a big meal!

Would definitely recommend this hotel

We could only stay here for one night unfortunately and we now know why its always full. We received a warm welcome from Roger and Peter. It was our first time in Torquay and Roger gave us lots of ideas of what to do. Great location, near where the action is but the location of the hotel is far from the hustle and bustle of town life, up a hill (short walk) it is quiet and picturesque. The hotel is beautiful, contemporary furnishings but has also regains the period features. Our room was spacious and very clean and so was the en suite. The breakfast was fabulous great start to the day. I cant recommend this hotel enough. Roger had recommended several fish restaurants close by and they also lived up to our expectations. What a find, I would recommend a stay here, you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: We stayed in a premier room

We only stayed in this hotel for one night but wished we'd of stayed longer and would definitely stay again. The hotel was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome. Set in a faboulous location close to the harbour and the bars and restaurants. Stayed in a Superior en-suite, large bathroom and bedroom very well finished. Breakfast was lovely and cooked to order.

We chose the Haytor largely on its review score and we were not disappointed. The hotel is centrally located up a short hill and was easy to find with a spacious car park. On arrival we were given what I can only describe as an induction by Roger, one of the owners that covered everything from breakfast times, through local walks to Michelin Star dining!! The rooms are absouletly stunning with beautiful, tasteful decor and are spotlessly clean. The service at breakfast was excellent as was the food with the endlessly cheerful Jean keeping things moving along nicely. All in all an outstanding hotel, well worth its reputation and a visit.

Room Tip: Dont be afraid to go for the lower spec rooms....they are all excellent.

Hotel was in a great location close to the harbour. We had a double ensuite shower room which was well presented - although I would say quite small especially the bathroom, so if staying again I would upgrade to one of the larger rooms. Breakfast was good and I think the info we received on arrival was the most informative.

Thanks for your review and nice comments.
I'm not sure which room you stayed in but it sounds like it might have been a Small Double
We have a range of different rooms, from the Small Doubles which are compact and are ideal for shorter breaks or singles (with a single occupancy discount), but still have standard double beds , through the larger Standard Doubles which are more spacious (and which also come with a single occupancy discount), and onwards to the Executive and Superior rooms which are larger still and have Kingsize beds, to the top of our range, Premier Rooms which have either King or Superking beds, or Twin beds.
Of course, all our rooms come with luxury mattress toppers, refreshment tray with bottled water, and Aromatherapy Associates toiletries in the en-suites.
Thanks again for your review and hopefully we'll see you again.

Stayed here for short break two nights check in was quick and was given some general info for the area, was given room looking on to the car park the room was ok for shory stay bathroom a bit small with shower. The hotel is walking distance to the main area the breakfast was very good and the servise by staff was attentive. The hotel is more of a good B&B than a hotel to call it a hotel is misleading. There is a small sitting and bar area.
It was good for a short stay

We're a little confused by the score of 3 for location, being located just 400m from the Harbour in a leafy conservation area, and with a large free, level car park and the first hotel you come to on Meadfoot Road, any closer and parking or noise from the town might be an issue, but its all a matter of personal choice and preference.
As to whether we are a Hotel or B&B, one thing we are not is a chain style hotel. The building was originally a gentleman's villa in its own grounds, built in 1853 and converted to a Hotel in the 1960's. With 15 individually styled rooms, each with Aromatherapy Associates toiletries in the ensuites, a fully licenced Bar (open to residents and their guests only), free parking and wifi throughout the building, and a high level of service and attentiveness to detail, we feel it is appropriate to refer to ourselves as a Boutique Hotel, however, as there is no real definition of any of the terms, we're happy if someone refers to us as a "good B&B" as there are some very good B&Bs to find and we have been lucky enough to stay at a few in our time. It's an interesting debate for the industry, and helpful the reviewer has highlighted that we are not your average hotel (or B&B for that matter).
Thanks again for your review and helpful comments.
