“Fantastic stay”
Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

We had booked into a totally different hotel but when we arrived it was not as stated and we left.
We called at the Haytor Hotel where we had stayed before and luckily they had a room.
The room was fantastic, it had a nautical theme but was so tastefully done the bathroom was amazing, the new owners were brilliant, so hospitable and went out there way to make us feel very welcome.
Our breakfast was tip top, as was the service by Jean.
We will return and would recommend.

Thanks for your review and we're glad to have been able to "rescue" you after your first hotel didn't work out for you.
So pleased you liked your room, each one of our 15 rooms is different and we try to balance simplicity with style, and those little extra touches (like Aromatherapy Associates toiletries, bottled water and gorgeous mattress toppers) in every room whether its our Small Doubles, Standard Doubles, Executive, Superior, or top of the range, Premier Rooms.
Thanks for your comments about breakfast, and yes, Jean is a Star!

This is a nice, comfortable place to stay with friendly hosts, parking and an easy walk into the centre. Can't go wrong really.
When I ask for a poached egg for breakfast without any runny white, I rarely get it - but here I did, which was great!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, and for your kind comments.
We're pleased to hear we got the poached eggs right, we try to accommodate guests' requests (thought the "whites only" scrambled egg someone asked for last year was a bit of a challenge!), but items cooked more or less than "normal", or gluten free, soya milk, or vegetarian options are never a problem.
Look forward to seeing you again.

Thanks for your review and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We have retained a few of our rooms with baths in the en-suites (including the room you stayed in which had a bath with shower over) for guests who prefer a bath, whilst other rooms have modern cubical showers. We have an ongoing redecoration program and this room will be upgraded in the near future, hopefully retaining both the bath and shower options.

My mum tends to be a bit difficult when it comes to hotels. As is usual, she had to see three different rooms before picking the one she liked most. However, once settled in, she really enjoyed her stay here and that is really quite unusual. We came and had breakfast with her and we were all made very welcome by the genuine friendliness of the owners. The rooms are comfortable without being overdone. Location is great - just a few minutes from the town centre.

I have stayed at this hotel 4 times and each and every time I have been welcomed and made to feel at home. Pete and Roger are fantastic hosts. The hotel is the sort of place you would want to live in but can only really dream of.

If you are looking for a week away to gather your thoughts or as a base for other activities this is the place.

The rooms are really nice (have stayed in 3 different rooms and all were fab).

I think as a woman i felt safe there and they are always up for a chat which is nice.

Book you cant go wrong.

Room Tip: I have stayed in 3 rooms all of which were good quality. They have recently done a lot of updates to...

Thanks for making the time to leave a review - it's great to get one from one of our "regulars".
You've seen a few of our rooms during your stays and its good to hear we are on the right track.
With such a fine 160 year old building, we are constantly taking care of the house, and its a joy to work with, protect and restore the beautiful materials used to build it. We are carefully working through the house, restoring many of the original sash windows making sure they last for the next 100 years whilst at the same time, improving their efficiency with guidance from the South West Energy Centre who are helping us reduce our carbon footprint.

We try to visit Torquay at least once a year for long weekend (to enjoy the great variety of bars & restaurants) and The Haytor is always our Hotel of choice.
We have previously posted a review for this hotel, that was sometime ago but I'm please to say very little has changed, it continues to be a great place to stay... offering good accommodation in an ideal central location.
The whole hotel is well presented and of a high standard, from the well tended gardens (with ample parking), to the relaxing bar or the bright breakfast room or your bedroom.... you won't be disappointed.
You're only a short walk form the quayside and there are many good restaurants (and one or two excellent ones) within a matter of a few minutes walk away.
2014 saw Peter and Roger take over the hotel, they might be new to The Haytor but they've settled in well and are very welcoming and helpful (do pick their brains if you want some local advice on attractions, restaurants, etc.)
We've already booked another mini break for this year!

Thank you for your kind words, and great review.
We are glad to hear you've had another great stay.
We actually took over near the start of the 2013 season, so we are now entering our second year at the Haytor Hotel, and feel so lucky to be able to live in such a fabulous building.
Over the last year we have tweaked a few things with more locally sourced ingredients for our breakfasts to give you a great start to the day, sumptuous new mattress toppers on every bed, and more local beers stocked in our cosy bar to enjoy there or on our garden terrace.
We are really pleased to have recently been winner of Trip Advisor's 2014 Travellers Choice award for both "Small Hotel" and "Romance" and are looking forward to 2014.

Lovely to see you again and thanks for making the time to leave a review.
We're proud of both our breakfasts and the standards of cleanliness.
We hold the top 5 out of 5 rating for Food Hygiene run by the Food Standards Agency and source many of the key ingredients from local suppliers, with the sausages, dry cured bacon, and eggs all coming from local farms (as well as a range of local beers for later in the day!).
As far as our cleanliness goes, as well as the Trip Advisor awards we've got, we've also received a "top Clean" award from another body based on customer reviews. We have a small but great team of staff who take pride in their work and are always chuffed to hear good feedback like this. Thanks.
