We were visiting relatives in the area and my father-in-law picked this B&B for convenience. We received a very warm welcome on our arrival. The room was nicely decorated and cosy. The bar looked well stocked, unfortunately we didn't have time to sample it. The following morning breakfast was fantastic. Plenty of choice and well cooked, nicely presented. Check out was quick & easy. Throughout we were made to feel very welcome. When visiting the area again we will definitely rebook

Beautifully looked after - over and above the norm. Great communication before arrival. Comfortable bedroom, quiet, clean and tidy with a very nautical theme - perfect for the location. Modern bathroom with lovely fluffy towels. Delicious breakfast. Very amenable to an earlier breakfast with perfectly poached eggs. Perfect location for walking into town for restaurants - with a great choice to be had. Easy parking. Thank you for having us.

Just returned from a brilliant weekend away in Torquay. The Haytor hotel has everything you want for a short break. it is very close to the town centre, has good facilities and the owners Peter and Roger saw to it that we wanted for nothing. Very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble, would definitely stay again. Lounge bar was very nice and the food was excellent. Thank you!

The title of this review refers to Roger and Peters attitude to any problem that may occur, it was no problem at all to fix it. Can't recommend this hotel enough, the only downside for me our room (No.9) had an en suite bathroom with sloping roof so I couldn't stand up for a shower but that was simply remedied by sitting down - really no big deal.
The decor was sympathetic with the period of the house itself and very well appointed and clean
Breakfast menu was comprehensive and cooked on request and those who wish to have a full English won't be disappointed.
Parking again is no problem, when we arrived there were only three cars occupying spaces but it looks like there is enough spaces for every room. Walking down from the Hotel to Torquay's harbour will take less than 10 minutes.
A good place to stay

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review, and for your nice comments.
You're spot on with our approach, we try to make sure our guests have the best stay possible and try to be "can do" people whenever we can, whether its finding a restaurant booking at short notice, providing something extra in the rooms, or just cooking that breakfast just how you like it.
Regarding your room and the sloping ceiling, we have 4 rooms on our second floor which are original rooms built right into the roof line, meaning that they have sloping roofs in parts. The rooms are our two small doubles with ensuite shower, and two standard doubles with baths. The small doubles have standard shower cubicles, while the standard rooms with baths, simply have a bath, with a shower head attachment to the taps that you use in the seated position. We also have other Standard Doubles with Showers (cubicle style) on our other floors, and of course a range of luxury rooms. When booking on our website you can choose either bath or shower, though I believe we were pretty full the weekend you stayed so choice may have been limited when you booked.
Thanks for your helpful comment about the parking, which can be difficult in some hotels, but as you say we are fortunate to have spaces for every room, allowing people to simply leave their cars and stroll down to the harbour which is just 400m away. By the way, if you are planning to arrive early, we can usually accommodate extra cars, allowing you to park up and explore the town before checking in.
Once again, thanks for your review and hope to see you again before long.

This hotel was everything we wanted during our trip through Cornwall and Devon. Great service, comfy beds, lovely lounge/bar, walking distance to good restaurants. There was a road closure which made finding the hotel with our satnav very difficult but Roger talked us through an alternative route by phone. The hospitality was wonderful as was the home cooked breakfast.

Just returned from a weekend away at the Haytor Hotel. As we drove up the sun was shining and we could see the hotel in all it's glory. We knew straight away we were in for a treat. We were welcomed at the door by both Roger and Peter, offering to take our bags off us. Even though the hotel was fully booked and there were several guests booking in, we were shown to our room without any fuss or bother. The room was immaculate and the lovely touches of toiletries were a bonus. Nothing was too much trouble and attention to detail just made everything so pleasant for our stay. We took advantage of the well stocked bar in the evening before heading off for dinner. The room itself was lovely and warm and being where it is we had a good nights sleep as it is in a peaceful spot. We were woken up by the sun shining through the window and the birds singing.... Wonderful. We had a delicious home cooked breakfast both mornings, the food comes from local produce and was lovely and fresh and plenty of it. It was a shame we couldn't have stayed longer.. But there will be a next time. The hosts really know how to look after their guests so in all a really great find .

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and thank you for your lovely comments, we're glad we hit the spot!
We have a small team here who take great pride in their work and they'll be delighted to read this review.
We've recently completed a project to restore and improve the insulation of the fine old sash windows - some over 150 years with the help of a truly skilled craftsman, which as well as reducing our carbon footprint has helped ensure every room is as toasty as you want it to be (there are thermostats in every room as well as controls for the system as a whole).
The birdsong can be truly spectacular as we are in a conservation ares with many trees including our fine old English Oak (we argue which is older, the tree or the house but an expert told us its at least 150 years old). We're also fortunate to have a pair of wild ducks who visit our pond most days, although there may be trouble in the relationship as the female has been leading on another male recently!
Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again soon.

Just returned from a two night stay to celebrate my wife's Birthday. If anyone is thinking of starting a B&B then I would strongly suggest you spend some time at the Haytor, as everything they have done and continue to do cannot be faulted. From the time and effort Peter puts in to your welcome as soon as you arrive through the door, to the time you leave, Roger and Peter really do make you feel more than just a paying customer. The candle at breakfast was just one of many little touches that made this stay so special. Will definitely return, Thanks Guys
