My partner and I spent 2 nights here in a room with a double bed and en-suite with shower. The host, Chris, was charming and helpful about what to see and do in Torquay. Our room was lovely and clean, with a comfortable bed. The room did get warm although a tower fan was provided in the cupboard most likely for this eventuality.
The breakfasts provided in the morning were ample and very well made - a great start to the day. The Haytor is a short walk from the town centre, although it is situated on a steep hill. Luckily taxis are cheap and plentiful in Torquay.
I will definitely stay here again on return visits to Torquay.

What better way to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary than a stay in our old stomping ground of Torquay?
A truly lovely hotel: a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the harbour but a million miles away in terms of no noise and a real sense of calm and relaxation.
Our room was lovely, light and airy. bathroom a good size and ample parking on site.
The breakfast was a real treat and served by the lovely Jean who put us at our ease every morning. The proprietors were both very friendly and helpful, always on hand if we needed to know anything. The icing on the cake? 2 runner ducks in the garden who accompanied us to the front gate each time we left the house - a touch of genius!

Our 1st UK holiday in 20 years, so we wanted to stay somewhere with good trip advisor reports. Just to be clear, Chris is the best host we have ever had, either UK or abroad. Very helpful, lots of local and not so local knowledge, but like someone else said, not intrusive. He recommended some 'day-out' destinations, and some meals out too, all were great, and just what we wanted.
The hotel is obviously very old, but not in the' grubby-could do with doing-up' way, the opposite infact, this place is spotless, with a perfect blend of new and vintage styles.
The breakfast is first class, and the presentation / choice is superb, plus 'Jean' (I think it was) the waitress is a lovely woman,so friendly, and chatty, she is a real asset, so we made a point of finding her as we left to say bye.
Just go there! We had 5 days, but wish it had been 10. Sad to go home.
And the pet ducks are very entertaining.
It's a long drive from Yorkshire, but worth it.

We recently stayed at the Haytor Hotel for a 3 day day break and I am so pleased that I made this choice. We have been to Torquay before but I booked this after I checked the website and reviews. I can assure you that all comments truly reflect this hotel, it is a little gem!.
Chris and his team work very hard to ensure that you have a brilliant stay but they are never intrusive - you come and go as you please returning to very welcoming accomoation which is modern and blends in well within this building. The rooms are spotless and breakfast very good. The hotel is very well situated for all attractions and amenities whether you wish to spend the day people watching at the harbour or shopping. We took the steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth and had a very enjoyable day out. We also purchased a Day rider bus ticket for £6.50 and spent all day travelling north to Teigmouth and Dawlish. Excellent staff, excellent hotel - would thoroughly recommend to all.

My wife and I stayed at the Haytor having booked after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. We are so please we did. Four things made the stay perfect 1) The room - we stayed in the four poster. It was EXTREMELY quiet, plenty of space, flat screen TV and decent shower. 2) The staff - Chris was very helpful, patient and modest - despite owning such a gorgeous hotel - and made sure that we could literally come and go as we pleased. 3) The location - just up a slight hill away from the harbour. The directions on the website are very easy to follow and there is plenty of parking at the hotel. So close to Meadfoot beach one way and as close to the town the other 4) The price. We paid around £100 per night and it was worth every penny. The breakfast was lovely, the hotel spotless and the bar and gardens lovely. Thuis is the first time I've reviewed a hotel on here despite staying in some fantastic places around the world but I feel that Chris and his team genuienly deserve the support as he obviously works so hard to make his guests stay perfect. We would als recommend the Number 7 Fish Bistro nearby - best fish we've ever had and good prices - about £18 for a main. Also, the Hole in the Wall - great Real Ales and good bar and restaurant meals. Thanks

Only stayed for 1 night but it was lovely, welcoming hosts, lovely room, super big bed, great breakfast, would definitely return, only one small niggle the shower was a bit weak, but that wouldnt stop us going back. FAB small hotel - try it!

This is our second stay at the Haytor Hotel and it is a little gem, we think ourselves lucky to have found it.
The owners and staff are fantastic and make you feel most welcome and at home, their emphasis really is on the customer and their comfort.
We will definately be back in 2011 for our third visit.
