we have been to many b and b s in devon but the charterhouse is our number one choice it was our fourth stay in two years! We had a fantastic stay as usual Marion and Les make you feel like one of the family with a really friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The room 15 we stay in is very clean, decorated nicely and spacious with a sea view. The breakfasts are great plenty of car parking space on site.Looking forward to going back already!!

If home was like The Charterhouse in Torquay then there would be no need to go away. Not only was the Riviera room a delight with double aspect views over the trees to the sea, a most comfortable bed, and splendid en-suite that could shame the Hilton. If that wasn't enough, the mornings brought a a buffet style breakfast with such a very wide selection on offer. Les's home made marmalade and jams accompanied a varied choice of breads including homemade. Marion does her utmost to cater for special requests such as smoked haddock or kippers.
Reading reviews of Charterhouse before booking caught our attention and our expectations were certainly met in full and even exceed.

Excellent B&B with extremely welcoming hosts Marion & Les. Located on Cockington Lane just a 2 minute stroll from the sea front. As others have reviewed, a great breakfast with Les' home made bread. We'll certainly be back next time we're in the area. Thoroughly recommended.

We picked this place by "guest ratings" as everyone had given it such a wonderful accolade ....and they weren't wrong. This is by far the friendliest B&B we have ever stayed in, and we've been around the block a few times. After a warm welcome from Marion and Les, we were offered tea and biscuits in the sitting room where we met with other newly arrived guests and received an informal presentation from Marion about the locality, eateries, transport, days out etc etc. We were made to feel like part of the family and had an immediate bonding with our fellow guests and our hosts. We had a wonderful room with great view of the garden and the sea beyond. Whatever you do ,don't miss breakfast, it is fantastic. After this cornucopia you won't need to eat until the evening. Marion is a human dynamo with a wonderfully warm personality ably complemented by the genial Les (of bread making fame) . Look no further.......stay here.

It was our first trip to England and Torquay. We were absolutely enthusiastic for the friendliness of Marion and Less. From our room we could see the sea, our room and our bathroom were very clean and tidy.
The breakfast was very delicious and much more than enough, especially the home-baked bread made by less! We would like to come back any time. We can highly recommend it!

On arrival you immediately feel you have made the right choice. Les and Marion go that extra mile to make your stay is perfect. Our room ( number 3) on the ground floor overlooking the garden (the sea was also visible) was large, spotlessly clean and well furnished. The bathroom was also well equipped with soft towels and quality toiletries. The Kingsize bed ensured we enjoyed a good night sleep after a tiring day and totally undisturbed due to the quiet location. Breakfast - the best ever. Les's home made breads and jams are to die for, and the choice and quality of the food is excellent. The location of the Charterhouse suits all types of traveller be it by car, train or bus. Torquay centre either an easy 15/20 minute stroll along the front or 5 minutes by bus from the top of the road. If you are going to Torquay this is the B&B to stay.
